New Wildlife Rescue Centers to be Setup in Madhya Pradesh: CM Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced that new wildlife rescue centers will be established across Madhya Pradesh. He highlighted that Madhya Pradesh has the largest forest area and the richest wildlife diversity in the country. The state is home to the highest number of Tigers in India, along with the largest populations of Leopards and Vultures. Crocodiles and Alligators are also found in various forest areas across the state. Dr. Yadav emphasised that significant efforts have been made for wildlife conservation, forest protection, and ecological restoration. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the state government is rapidly progressing in all sectors, including wildlife conservation. He made these remarks in a media message before departing for Gujarat on Wednesday.
Rescue Centres Needed at Divisional Level
CM Dr. Yadav noted that the state has now introduced King Cobras for wildlife enthusiasts and is developing a new national park in Gandhi Sagar by relocating Cheetahs from Palpur Kuno National Park. With the creation of two new Tiger National Parks and the growing population of Cheetahs and other wildlife, the need for rescue centers at the divisional level has become evident. Directions have been issued to relevant authorities for their establishment.
Currently, Madhya Pradesh has only one wildlife rescue centre — located at Van Vihar in the capital, Bhopal — where injured and sick animals from across the state are brought for treatment. However, changing their habitat often causes stress for the animals. The new divisional rescue centers aim to ensure better care and recovery of wildlife in familiar environments.
More Zoos to be Established
The state government also plans to increase the number of zoos (animal parks) in Madhya Pradesh. Two new zoos have been approved in the state budget. CM Dr. Yadav pointed out that Gujarat has the best zoos and rescue centers in the country. CM Dr. Yadav said, during his study tour to Gujarat, he will inspect the facilities in Jamnagar and explore wildlife exchange and conservation opportunities.
Sensitivity Towards Both Citizens and Wildlife
CM Dr. Yadav stated that veterinary courses and hospitals are being introduced in several colleges affiliated with universities in Madhya Pradesh to increase the number of veterinary professionals. Key decisions on this front will be taken in the near future. He informed a widespread campaign for the protection of forests and wildlife is currently underway in the state.
The Chief Minister appealed citizens to inform the nearest forest officer if they see or learn about any wildlife in distress. He affirmed that the state government is not only committed to the welfare of its citizens but also sensitive to the conservation of wildlife.
