Solar Sujala Scheme Brings Relief to Farmers
Irrigation Made Easy, Double Cropping Increases Income
Raipur, Aug 2025 : The Solar Sujala Scheme is proving to be a boon for farmers in Balrampur district. Farmers, who earlier depended solely on rainfall, no longer worry about irrigation as they are now being provided with solar pump facilities under this scheme. This has not only eased irrigation but also enabled farmers to cultivate crops during both Kharif and Rabi seasons, thereby enhancing their income. The scheme is being effectively implemented in the district, allowing farmers to grow not just paddy but also vegetables, resulting in additional earnings.

Vinay Khalkho, a resident of Sahpur village in Balrampur district, shared that he installed a solar pump on his 1.5-acre land and has started cultivating paddy and vegetables. He is now reaping the benefits of double cropping, earning significantly higher profits. Similarly, Mrs. Tainu Paikara, a farmer from Dohna village, mentioned that cultivating Rabi crops was difficult earlier, but with the installation of a solar pump, concerns over electricity availability and bills have been resolved. She now produces both Kharif and Rabi crops, which has led to a notable increase in her income.
Krishna Singh, a farmer from Bhanaura village, installed a 3 HP capacity solar pump. He now cultivates vegetables along with paddy, as per seasonal demand, resulting in additional income. Previously, with rain-dependent farming, production was limited, but now farmers are able to cultivate throughout the year.
For the current year, a target has been set to install 290 solar pumps in the district. Interested farmers can avail of this scheme by approaching their nearest Agriculture Extension Officer, CREDA office, or Deputy Director of Agriculture office with necessary documents such as Aadhaar card, land record map, caste certificate, bank passbook copy, and application fee.
The Solar Sujala Scheme has relieved farmers from electricity bill burdens and ensured uninterrupted irrigation. This has not only increased their agricultural productivity but also enhanced their income, thereby strengthening the rural economy of the state.
