Niyad Nellanar: Clean Drinking Water Reaches Every Home in Naxal-Affected Achkat Village

Niyad Nellanar, Raipur, Sept 2025 : The Niyad Nellanar scheme, aimed at eliminating Naxalism and rapidly developing basic infrastructure in Sukma district, has now shown its impact in Achkat village. Every household in the Naxal-affected area of Achkat now has tap connections supplying clean drinking water. With water now reaching directly to their homes, villagers have finally found a solution to their long-standing water problem.

Achkat is a dependent village under Gram Panchayat Kamararam in the Konta development block, a Naxal-affected region of Sukma. Located about 95 kilometers from the district headquarters, villagers here were earlier dependent on hand pumps and wells for water. In summer, acute water scarcity was a common problem.

To provide a permanent solution, the district administration installed two solar-powered tanks and 38 stand posts, ensuring clean drinking water for around 120 villagers. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, every family in Achkat now receives safe drinking water directly at home.

Villager Smt. Sukmati Sodi said earlier they had to fetch water from afar, often leading to health issues. “Now, with tap connections at home, we are getting clean water. We are very grateful to Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai and the district administration,” she added.

Similarly, villagers Shri Sodi Mukesh, Shri Vijay Sodi, and Shri Ganesh Sodi praised the initiative, calling it a major improvement in their standard of living.
