Karma Festival Is a Celebration of Bond with Nature and Collective Joy: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai

Raipur, January 2026: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that the Karma Festival is a symbol of Chhattisgarh’s rich tribal culture and traditions. Such events not only preserve folk festivals but also connect the younger generation with their roots. The Karma Festival is a celebration of harmony with nature, mutual brotherhood, and collective joy. The Chief Minister expressed these views while addressing the Karma Mahotsav organised today at Chungudi in Surajpur district.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced development works worth Rs 172.51 crore for Surajpur district. He declared the development of the school playground at Chungudi into a mini stadium and announced a grant of Rs 1 crore for the development of Nagar Panchayat Bhatgaon. Minister for Women and Child Development Smt Laxmi Rajwade and Member of Parliament Shri Chintamani Maharaj also addressed the gathering.

The Karma Mahotsav, filled with tradition, culture, and enthusiasm, witnessed the entire region swaying to the rhythm of Karma dance amid the beats of mandar drums and the sound of ankle bells. Folk artists from 33 Karma troupes representing the districts of Surajpur, Surguja, Jashpur, Balrampur, Korea, and Manendragarh mesmerised the audience with vibrant Karma dance performances in traditional attire, immersing everyone in the colours of folk culture.

The Chief Minister also visited various exhibition stalls set up at the venue. He inaugurated initiatives including distribution of boats, fishing nets, and ice boxes; Ayushman cards; loan distribution from the Chhattisgarh Women’s Fund; and six ready-to-eat units operated by women self-help groups. He honoured women associated with nutrition distribution work by presenting them with shawls and coconuts. In addition, he provided Mudra loans to women for self-employment, insurance claim benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, and symbolic keys of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, bringing joy to the beneficiaries.

The programme was attended by MLA Shri Bhulan Singh Maravi, Chairman of the Forest Development Corporation Shri Ram Sevak Paikra, District Panchayat President Smt Chandramani Paikra, Vice President Smt Rekha Rajlal Rajwade, several other public representatives, and all district-level officers and employees.
