Ayodhya, October 2026 : Ayodhya is gearing up for a grand celebration of its 10th Deepotsav, with 33 lakh earthen lamps set to illuminate the holy city from November 5 to 7 under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The Deepotsav will be organised across an area of around two kilometres, including Ram Ki Paidi, as the administration and concerned departments accelerate preparations for the three-day event. To ensure uninterrupted lighting of the lamps, arrangements are being made for 65 lakh cotton wicks and 55,000 litres of oil. Other essential materials, including T-shirts, candles and around 150 kg of camphor, are also being arranged.
Five tenders have been issued for various arrangements for the event, covering lamp-related materials, stage construction, decorations and other requirements.
Grand Display of Lamps from Ram Ki Paidi to the Saryu
The Shri Ayodhya Ji Teerth Vikas Parishad will organise the grand Deepotsav this year as well. A special stage will be constructed at Ram Ki Paidi for cultural programmes.
The ghats decorated with thousands of lamps and major temples illuminated with colourful lights are expected to enhance the grandeur of Ayodhya Dham. Preparations for LED decorations at prominent temples are also underway. Special lighting arrangements will be made along the Saryu riverfront and various ghats.
The illuminated city will showcase not only its religious significance but also its rich cultural heritage and ongoing development.
34,000 Volunteers to Manage Deepotsav Arrangements
Around 34,000 volunteers will play a key role in making the Deepotsav successful. They will be responsible for lighting the lamps, helping maintain arrangements and assisting devotees during the event.
Arrangements are also being made for meals for the 34,000 students participating in the Deepotsav. Their involvement will provide the younger generation with an opportunity to participate in and experience the grand cultural celebration.
Focus on Security, Traffic and Cleanliness
Along with making the Deepotsav larger and more organised than previous editions, the administration is paying special attention to security, traffic management and cleanliness.
Preparations are underway for rows of lamps, floral decorations and elaborate lighting across the approximately two-kilometre event area. Organised under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Deepotsav is being positioned not only as a religious celebration but also as an important event showcasing Ayodhya's cultural identity and tourism potential.
With a large number of devotees and tourists expected to visit the city, efforts are also being made to improve public facilities and ensure smooth movement during the celebrations.
Material Supply to Begin After Tender Process
Ayodhya Ji Teerth Vikas Parishad CEO Jayendra Kumar said the supply of essential materials would begin once the tender process is completed. Preparations for volunteer training and food arrangements for participating students are also in the final stages.
Deepotsav has now become an integral part of Ayodhya's identity and attracts attention across the country and abroad every year. As preparations gather pace for the 10th edition, the holy city is set to glow with the light of 33 lakh earthen lamps in November, creating a spectacular display of faith, tradition and cultural heritage.
