Lucknow, October 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented a gift to the people of state on the birth anniversary of Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi. He stated, “Khadi is the mantra of India’s freedom. State government has provided a 25% discount on Khadi garments till January 30, 2027.” He appealed to people of the state to make Khadi a part of their lives and honor the skills of artisans, handicraft workers and weavers. CM Yogi offered floral tribute at the statue of former Prime Minister and ‘Bharat Ratna’ Lal Bahadur Shastri located at the Annexy.

CM Yogi stated, “Today is 157th birth anniversary of the great hero of India’s freedom, Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi and 122nd birth anniversary of India’s second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who was renowned for his simplicity and gentleness. Bapu’s ‘Swadeshi se Swavalamban’ became the mantra of India’s freedom. The freedom movement, initially scattered, became a mass movement under Bapu’s leadership. As a result, British government was forced to leave India and flee.”

Chief Minister stated, “Gandhi ji’s mantra of self-sufficiency and self-reliance will become the foundation of a developed India. That is why PM Modi ji talks about ‘Local to Global’. He believes that promoting products made by villages, artisans, handicraft workers and weavers and providing them platforms is also an expression of gratitude towards the great heroes of India’s freedom.”

CM Yogi stated, “The very mention of Lal Bahadur Shastri ji evokes a feeling of reverence in the heart of every Indian. He will always be remembered for his simplicity and gentleness. He was as sensitive as he was resilient. He demonstrated through his actions what he said. He spoke only as much as he did.”

Chief Minister stated, “Shastri ji’s objective was for India to achieve the goal of foodgrain self-reliance and for every Indian to develop a feeling of respect towards the soldiers fighting on the country’s borders. Shastri ji’s slogan of ‘Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan’ became the mantra of independent India.”

CM Yogi stated, “On one hand, soldiers were protecting the borders and giving the enemies a tough time, while on the other hand, Annadata Kisan were seen committed to making India self-reliant through their sweat and hard work. As a result, India has achieved foodgrain self-reliance. India now has the capacity not only to feed its 140 crore citizens but also to supply foodgrains to several countries. The mantra given by Shastri ji in 1965 continues to be embraced even today by the soldiers and citizens who provide internal and external security to India.”

On the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan, Rajya Sabha MP Brijlal, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Legislative Council member Dr. Mahendra Singh, Lalji Prasad Nirmal, MLA Siddharth Nath Singh, State Women’s Commission Vice-Chairperson Aparna Yadav, BJP’s Mahanagar President Anand Dwivedi and others were present.
