NEW DELHI, Aug 2026 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has raised serious questions over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi, pointing out large-scale deletion of voters from the draft list. The AAP Chief said 47 lakh voters have gone missing from Delhi’s 1.5-crore draft voter list, while AAP Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj flagged BJP’s ‘Garib Bhagao’ policy to benefit the affluent. The AAP asserted that despite any attempt to delete voters, the people of Delhi will decisively reject the BJP in the next election.
Taking to X, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal stated:“The draft voter list for Delhi under SIR has been released. Out of 1.5 crore voters, the names of 47 lakh voters are missing. The Government of India is unnecessarily worried about the population. Through SIR, the Election Commission will reduce our country’s population from 140 crore to 50 crore.”
On this, AAP Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The Government of India and the Election Commission of India have become a joke. The people of Delhi gave the BJP seven MPs each time in three consecutive elections, and the same people of Delhi voted to bring the BJP government to power just one-and-a-half years ago. Today, the BJP government is saying that one-third of the people in Delhi are Bangladeshis. Is it possible that one-third of the people in Delhi were Bangladeshis and now their names will simply not be on the voter list?”
He said,“This is completely an anti-poor government. They think that all the rights of the poor should be taken away from them. Free treatment for poor people in hospitals has been stopped, medicines have been stopped, Mohalla Clinics and tests have been stopped.”
He further pointed out that facilities and benefits meant for women and economically weaker sections were also being withdrawn. “Poor women used to travel free in buses, and that has been stopped. It was said that women would be given ₹2,500, but so far they have selected only around 4,000 women for it,” he said.
Saurabh Bharadwaj also noted,“Bulldozers are being run over the homes of the poor, the jhuggis of the poor are being destroyed. Wherever a poor person worked and earned a livelihood, bulldozers are being used there as well. In every possible way, the BJP is running a ‘Garib Bhagao’ scheme in Delhi. Drive out the poor, delete the votes of the poor and form your government only with the votes of those living in bungalows.”
Calling out BJP’s perceived support among affluent sections, Saurabh Bharadwaj said the party would find it increasingly difficult to influence Delhi’s younger generation. “But I want to tell the BJP that the people who gathered at Jantar Mantar during the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ movement were all children of people living in bungalows. The uncles sitting in bungalows may have been misled by the BJP, but misleading the youth is now very difficult,” he said.
Saurabh Bharadwaj asserted that attempts to alter the voter list would not change the people’s verdict in the next election. “No matter how many votes they delete, the people of Delhi will uproot the BJP and throw it out in the next election,” he said.
