A Melodious Journey Through Awadhi Folk Songs Comes to an End, Women Enthrall the Audience
Sawani Sur Workshop Becomes an Example of Preserving Folk Culture
Lucknow, August 2026 : The Sawani Sur workshop “Jhoolain Ram Ji Hindora”, organised by Amod Ashram in Gomti Nagar, the capital city, concluded with a grand finale on Saturday. The week-long workshop, which had been underway at the ashram premises since August 2, provided training in traditional Sawan swing songs, Kajri and folk melodies, introducing participants to the rich folk culture of Awadh.
The workshop was conducted by renowned Awadhi folk singer Shri Shiv Pujan Shukla, who taught participants the finer aspects of voice, rhythm and expression throughout the week. Retired IAS officer Smt. Shraddha Mishra attended the concluding ceremony as the chief guest. She said that such workshops are a powerful medium for passing on the country’s folk heritage to future generations and expressed particular happiness at seeing such enthusiastic participation by women.
Guru Shiv Pujan Shukla also praised the dedication of the participants, saying that the manner in which the women absorbed the Sawani songs with such devotion in just one week reflected their deep attachment to Awadhi folk music.
Around 50 women from the city actively participated in the programme. At the concluding event, they collectively presented captivating Sawani and swing songs, leaving the audience deeply moved. One participant said that the workshop gave her an opportunity to relive childhood memories of the Sawan season. Several distinguished guests were also present on the occasion and congratulated the organisers for the initiative.
Amod Ashram Secretary Smt. Anita Srivastava expressed gratitude to all the guests, the trainer and the participants, saying that the organisation would continue to conduct such programmes in the future to preserve folk art and culture.
