Patna, Aug 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced a series of important decisions aimed at strengthening the state’s education system, improving quality and making education more student-centric. The government will also focus on making examinations smooth, transparent, fair and modern.
The Chief Minister inaugurated a two-day state-level workshop-cum-chintan camp organised by the Education Department at Adhiveshan Bhawan in Patna. Addressing the gathering, he said several significant decisions had been taken to improve the overall education system in Bihar.
State-level committees for education and examination reforms
Choudhary said a state-level committee has been constituted to ensure that quality education reaches every school and that learning outcomes among students are continuously improved. The objective is to transform every school into a centre of excellence.
A separate State-Level Examination Reform Committee has also been constituted to make examinations conducted in Bihar more efficient, transparent, fair and modern. The committee will recommend measures for improving not only board and competitive examinations but also classroom-based assessments. Technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be used to better evaluate students’ knowledge, understanding and analytical abilities.
The Chief Minister also announced that special consultation camps would be organised to accelerate education reforms. During these camps, the Chief Minister, ministers, MPs and MLAs will interact directly with students, hear their suggestions and understand their problems.
A dedicated directorate will also be created by bringing together all departments dealing with student welfare. The aim is to ensure better coordination and effective implementation of programmes concerning students.
Government wants Bihar’s youth to study within the state
Choudhary said connecting Bihar’s youth with the mainstream remains one of the government’s biggest priorities. He said the future of Bihar lies with its young people and the coming generation will play a decisive role in building a new Bihar.
He said the government wants to develop an education system that provides children in Bihar with quality learning opportunities so that they do not have to move to other states for better education.
The Chief Minister noted that financially capable families are already sending their children to reputed schools, while children from economically weaker sections often lack access to similar opportunities. Providing quality education to such students is the government’s responsibility, he said.
A large number of students from Bihar currently travel to other states for higher education and preparation for competitive examinations. Referring to the Student Credit Card Scheme, Choudhary said nearly Rs 18,000 crore has been provided under the programme, with a substantial portion being spent in other states.
He also pointed to the large number of students studying in Kota and the significant presence of teachers from Bihar there, saying the state needs to develop comparable educational infrastructure within Bihar itself.
Greater focus on student welfare
The Chief Minister said the government is sensitive to the concerns of the younger generation. Ministers, MPs, MLAs and senior officials will visit schools and colleges and interact directly with students. Their suggestions will be uploaded on a dedicated portal.
A student assistance camp will also be organised every month at the Chief Minister’s level to ensure effective action on students’ concerns and suggestions.
Choudhary said the younger generation would carry forward Bihar’s culture, civilisation and glorious history. A separate mechanism for student welfare will be developed, with various departments working together through a dedicated directorate to address students’ issues.
1,001 Model Schools targeted
The Chief Minister said 551 Model Schools have already been established in Bihar and the government has set a target of increasing the number to 1,001.
Emphasising discipline and quality in education, he warned that strict action would be taken against people involved in offences related to educational institutions. Such cases would invite action under the Goonda Act and the Criminal Law Amendment provisions, including provisions for keeping offenders in jail for up to one year.
He also announced that from August 15, students would be allowed to continue online classes until 11 p.m., under a new arrangement aimed at supporting their studies.
Technology, AI and Indian languages
The government plans to strengthen computer and English education while also promoting Sanskrit, Urdu and Bihar’s five major languages. Choudhary said technology, particularly AI, would be leveraged to improve the education system and make learning more effective.
The State-Level Examination Reform Committee will work on incorporating technology and AI into classroom assessments and competitive and board examinations to improve evaluation of students’ knowledge, understanding and analytical skills.
During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the ‘Vande Mataram’ book and booklet.
Education Department Special Secretary Dharmendra Kumar welcomed the Chief Minister by presenting him with a traditional angavastram, bouquet and a commemorative statue of Swami Vivekananda.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Chief Minister’s Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Bihar School Examination Committee Chairman Dr S. M. Tyagarajan, District Magistrate Kundan Kumar and senior officials of the Education Department were present at the workshop-cum-consultation camp.
