Government efforts underway to extend support to distressed farmers

Nagpur, November 2026 : Farmers across Maharashtra are facing drought-like conditions, and it is the responsibility of every section of society to support them and stand firmly by their side during this difficult period. The government is making efforts to provide assistance to farmers, while various social organisations, associations and citizens have also come forward to extend help. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the government was working to expand these efforts and ensure that assistance reaches the maximum number of farmers.

Diwali is a festival of joy, enthusiasm and togetherness. However, the present situation is challenging for farmers across the state. To ensure that farming families are also part of the festive celebrations and feel that they are not alone, Chief Minister Fadnavis appealed to every minister to spend one day during Diwali in a village and celebrate the festival with farmers.

He was speaking during an informal interaction with journalists at his official residence, Ramgiri. Minister of State for Finance and Planning, Advocate Ashish Jaiswal, MLAs Sanjay Bhende, Parinay Fuke and Krishna Khopde, along with journalists, were present on the occasion.

Let us collectively overcome the drought

The farmer is an important pillar of the state's economy. Difficulties in agriculture do not affect farming families alone but also have an impact on the rural economy. Therefore, it is essential to support farmers during times of crisis, stand by them and make collective efforts to help them recover, the Chief Minister said.

Discussions were held with all ministers in the state regarding assistance to farmers. The deliberations focused on the difficulties faced by farmers, the support they require and ways to ensure that assistance reaches them more effectively.

He said farmers needed support not only from the government but also from society. The government has decided to encourage relief efforts being undertaken by various organisations and individuals to help farmers in distress.

The Chief Minister said ministers should visit rural areas, interact with farming families, understand their circumstances and assess the difficulties they are facing. The broader message behind the initiative is to strengthen social solidarity with farmers.

Participating in their joys and sorrows, providing them with emotional support and addressing their concerns with sensitivity could make this initiative meaningful, he said. Collective efforts by the government, public representatives, social organisations and citizens would help expand the reach of assistance.

With this objective, Fadnavis appealed to ministers to dedicate one day of Diwali to spending time with farmers. He also announced that he would visit a village in Nagpur district for a day.

“Let us collectively overcome the drought,” the Chief Minister appealed.
