Patna, Aug 2026: On the occasion of the fourth National Organ Donation Day and the 12th International Organ Donation Day, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday launched a state-level programme aimed at creating widespread awareness about organ donation.
The joint programme was organised by the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti, Bihar, at the premises of the Bihar Chamber of Commerce in Patna. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said there could be no greater act of humanity than bringing happiness and a new lease of life to another person after one’s death. He described organ donation as a symbol of humanity, compassion and collective responsibility towards life.
Choudhary stressed the need for a comprehensive public awareness campaign to take the message of organ donation to every section of society. He appreciated the work being undertaken by the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti in the field and congratulated everyone associated with the organisation for their contribution.
The Chief Minister observed that while people are generally aware of organ donation, many hesitate to come forward and take the decision. Families are often emotionally overwhelmed at the time of death, making it difficult to make such decisions. Therefore, an environment of awareness and motivation needs to be created among people well in advance, he said.
He highlighted the life-changing impact of organ donation, pointing out that kidney donation can give a person a new lease of life, while eye donation can bring light to someone who has lost their vision.
Government to Support Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti
The Chief Minister announced that the Bihar government would initiate steps to associate the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti with the state’s healthcare system as a supporting organisation. The government will facilitate awareness activities at district hospitals, divisional hospitals and medical colleges through members of the Samiti.
He said that if any changes in existing laws are required to strengthen organ donation, the government would work with the organisation to take appropriate initiatives. The possibility of conducting awareness campaigns in private hospitals would also be explored.
Choudhary said the state government is continuously working to strengthen healthcare services in Bihar. He emphasised that the campaign of the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti is not merely an effort to support the government, but a broader movement to serve humanity across Bihar.
The government intends to make full use of the campaign so that organ donation can help bring happiness into the lives of people in need, he said. He added that organ donation and eye donation can also make an important contribution towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India.
The Chief Minister said a broad-based awareness campaign would be undertaken to promote organ donation, social reform and service to humanity.
Tribute to Former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi
Remembering former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister late Sushil Kumar Modi, who had been associated with the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti, Choudhary recalled his long-standing guidance and contribution to the organisation’s work in the field of organ donation. He described Modi’s contribution as memorable.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also welcomed Assam Governor Lakshman Acharya on his arrival in Bihar. Choudhary said Acharya has a special connection with Bihar and that his association with the state is a matter of pride. He invited the Governor to continue visiting Bihar and contributing to the state’s development and efforts to highlight its rich history and heritage.
Members of the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti welcomed the Chief Minister by presenting him with a traditional stole and a memento.
A video film highlighting organ donation and the work being undertaken by late Sushil Kumar Modi and members of the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti was screened during the programme.
Contributors Honoured
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary honoured several individuals for their notable contributions to the field of organ donation. Those felicitated included Advocate General S.D. Sanjay, MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, Mayor Sita Sahu and Deputy Director of IGIMS Dr. Vibhuti Prasanna Sinha, among others.
The Chief Minister also released a magazine titled Dadhichi Darpan, dedicated to organ donation.
Before the programme, Choudhary paid floral tributes to organ donors and deceased donors in a collective ceremony.
The event was attended by Assam Governor Lakshman Acharya, former Governor and former president of the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti Ganga Prasad, BJP Organisation General Secretary Bhikhu Bhai Dalsania, senior vice-president of the Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti Dr Subhash Prasad, Padma Shri Nilesh Mandlewala, Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti General Secretary Padma Shri Bimal Jain, regional vice-president Dr Anil Gupta, MLAs Shyam Rajak and Sanjay Gupta, other public representatives, doctors, office-bearers of the Bihar Chamber of Commerce, prominent citizens, and a large number of members of the Dadhichi Samiti and families of organ donors from across Bihar.
