Chief Minister inaugurates and launches several projects of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate
Calls for public participation in anti-drug campaign to build an empowered younger generation
Pune, November 2026: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called upon the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police to strengthen their capabilities by adopting modern technology and advanced investigation methods to effectively tackle emerging crime challenges.
He said the police force had performed well in controlling crime through modern technology, social initiatives and speedy investigations. With Pimpri-Chinchwad expected to grow larger than Pune in the coming years, the police must be prepared to address the challenges through effective technology-driven policing.
The Chief Minister also appealed to citizens to join the campaign against drugs and work towards making their homes, neighbourhoods, villages, districts and the entire state of Maharashtra drug-free, thereby providing the younger generation with the right direction and opportunities.
Fadnavis was speaking at a programme organised at the G. D. Madgulkar Auditorium in Pimpri-Chinchwad, where he inaugurated and dedicated several projects of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, MP Shrirang Barne, Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure and Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey were among those present.
Collective Efforts Needed to Make Maharashtra Drug-Free
Fadnavis said drug abuse was a major challenge facing the country. He observed that narcotics were being brought into the country with the intention of weakening the potential of the younger generation and, consequently, slowing down national progress.
The government has resolved to make the country drug-free over the next three to four years, and all departments will have to work together to achieve this goal, he said.
He stressed that every citizen must participate in the anti-drug campaign to protect young people, who play an important role in nation-building and innovation.
The State Government is working at several levels to address the problem. Responsibilities have been assigned to the concerned agencies for treating people suffering from addiction, creating public awareness, controlling drug manufacturing and dismantling drug distribution networks.
The Chief Minister also urged parents to counsel children struggling with addiction and ensure that they receive appropriate treatment without delay.
Focus on Providing Modern Facilities to Police
Fadnavis said an advanced police headquarters was being developed for Pimpri-Chinchwad. He noted that the design of the new Police Commissionerate building had been prepared with the personal involvement of late Ajit Pawar.
He expressed confidence that once completed, the building would be among the most modern police commissionerates in the country.
Around 50 acres of land has also been allotted for the police headquarters. Modern residential facilities are being developed for police officers, replacing conventional housing designs with homes equipped with better amenities.
The objective is to provide police personnel and their families with quality housing and enable them to lead their lives with dignity, he said.
Advanced Technology to Strengthen Crime Control
The Chief Minister emphasised that modern technology was essential to ensure urban safety.
He said the response time under the Dial 112 emergency service had been reduced to three minutes, with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate ranking first in the state in this regard.
The police are now able to respond quickly to crimes and take immediate action, while digital records of their responses are also available. These measures are helping create a deterrent against criminals.
Efforts are underway to bring street crime under complete control, while the rate of convictions is also increasing, he said.
The CCTV network is helping the police manage traffic and control crime. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is enabling investigators to overcome human limitations and improve the investigation process.
The AI-based ‘Tapas Sarathi’ system uses blockchain technology to support the investigation process, from the registration of a case to its presentation before a court, including the preparation of investigation records and chargesheets. Fadnavis said the system would significantly contribute to crime control.
He added that the police force was also adopting new technologies. Body-worn cameras would provide investigation-related information to the Command and Control System while improving the safety of police personnel. They are also expected to help reduce traffic-related complaints in the coming years.
Commending the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate for its progress within a short period, Fadnavis said the area's population could exceed that of Pune within the next 15 years. He urged the police force to prepare for the challenges arising from this growth.
Modern Facilities to Help Police Deliver Justice: Eknath Shinde
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said police personnel needed adequate facilities to ensure justice for citizens. He expressed confidence that the modern infrastructure being provided to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police would help improve crime control and traffic management.
He said the State Government was undertaking several initiatives to provide police personnel, who work round the clock for public safety, with proper housing and essential facilities. A time-bound programme had been drawn up for this purpose.
Shinde said the Maharashtra Government was committed to protecting young people from drug addiction. He appreciated the anti-drug initiative launched by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police and said several measures were being introduced to strengthen urban security as the city's population continued to grow.
