Patna, September 2026: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary honoured 168 meritorious students who secured positions in the topper lists of the Intermediate and Matric Annual Examinations 2026. The students were presented with medals, certificates of merit and incentive cheques at a ceremony held at the Nek Samvad auditorium at Lok Sevak Awas.
After inaugurating the ceremony by lighting the ceremonial lamp, the Chief Minister congratulated the toppers and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Among the students honoured were the top three rank holders in the Intermediate Science stream—Aditya Prakash Aman, Sakshi Kumari and Sapna Kumari; the top four rank holders in the Arts stream—Nishu Kumari, Siddhi Shikha, Chandradeep Kumar and Md Lakki Ansari; the top two rank holders in the Commerce stream—Aditi Kumari and Mahi Kumari; and the top two rank holders in the Vocational stream—Priyanshu Raj and Anika Upadhyay.
The top three rank holders in the Matric Annual Examination 2026—Pushpanjali Kumari, Sabreen Parveen and Naheed Sultana—were also honoured with medals, certificates of merit and incentive cheques.
Students securing first, second and third positions in Intermediate and Matric examinations were awarded Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh, respectively. Intermediate students securing fourth and fifth positions received Rs 30,000, while students securing fourth to 10th positions in Matric received Rs 20,000 each. In addition, all the award-winning students were given an extra Rs 51,000 towards the purchase of laptops.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the 168 students being honoured today represented Bihar’s bright future. He congratulated them and said their achievements were the result of their hard work, talent and dedication.
The Chief Minister said he was particularly pleased to welcome all 168 students to Lok Sevak Awas, adding that every student present was a topper in his eyes. He said that while reviewing the practice of honouring toppers, he learnt that such ceremonies were generally organised in November-December. He directed officials to organise the Toppers’ Award Ceremony within one month of the declaration of examination results from next year, so that students receive recognition and encouragement without delay.
Highlighting Bihar’s glorious educational heritage, Choudhary said the state had been a major centre of knowledge and education since ancient times. Vikramshila and Nalanda universities flourished in the historic Magadh region. Nalanda University was re-established in 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while efforts were also underway to facilitate the revival of Vikramshila University. He said 200 acres of land had been allotted for the purpose on July 15.
The Chief Minister said the government was working to carry forward Bihar’s proud educational legacy with modern facilities. To provide students with a better learning environment, facilities such as coaching, live classes and live tutors have been introduced in 700 Saraswati Vidya Niketan model schools.
He also appealed to former students who wish to contribute to their schools and support present students to come forward. Such former students would be welcomed and connected with the institutions.
Referring to the vision of a developed Bihar, Choudhary said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of ‘Samriddh Bihar’ must be achieved collectively. He said Bihar was changing and moving steadily on the path of progress, with young people having the most important role in this journey.
“Youth should not merely seek jobs; they should become job creators,” the Chief Minister said, adding that land had already been made available for around 1,000 industries in the state. Along with industrial development, new opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship were being created for the youth.
On the flood situation in Bihar, the Chief Minister said flooding had occurred despite the state receiving 38 per cent less rainfall. He noted that Bihar faces the challenge of floods almost every year and stressed the need to move beyond relief and rescue towards permanent solutions.
He said long-term work would be undertaken to improve and systematically manage the water cycle and natural water-flow system, with the objective of finding a lasting solution to the recurring flood problem.
The Chief Minister said efforts were also underway to modernise Bihar’s ancient educational institutions. Such initiatives in higher education would play an important role in restoring Bihar’s position as a major centre of knowledge and education.
He urged students and young people to use their talent and knowledge for the development of Bihar and contribute towards making the state strong, developed and prosperous. He also appealed to people living outside Bihar who are doing well to contribute towards strengthening both their place of work and their native state.
Congratulating the students once again, Choudhary said they were the representatives of Bihar’s bright future and would make an important contribution to the state’s development. He encouraged them to inspire other students to excel academically.
The Chief Minister said good education could illuminate an entire lifetime. To provide students with necessary assistance and guidance, the ‘Sahayak Portal’ is also being operated. The portal provides solutions to students’ problems and also allows them to submit suggestions. He appealed to students to contribute their ideas towards building a developed and prosperous Bihar.
After the felicitation ceremony, the Chief Minister hosted a preeti bhoj for the students and their parents at Lok Sevak Awas. He interacted with the students in a cordial atmosphere and enquired about their future plans and other activities. The students appeared enthusiastic and encouraged while interacting with the Chief Minister, who wished them a bright future.
During the programme, Bihar School Examination Committee Chairman Dr Tyag Rajan S.M. welcomed the Chief Minister by presenting him with a sapling and a memento. A short film highlighting the activities of the Bihar School Examination Committee was also screened.
Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, along with Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, also addressed the gathering.
Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Chief Minister’s Secretaries Lokesh Kumar Singh and Sanjay Kumar Singh, Education Department Secretary Rajiv Ranjan, Bihar School Examination Committee Chairman Dr Tyag Rajan S.M., senior officials, students and their parents were present at the event.
