Patna, September 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary directed officials to ensure 100 per cent water supply to households under the Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal scheme and stressed that there should be no negligence in its implementation.
The Chief Minister reviewed various schemes being implemented by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), their progress and upcoming action plans at a meeting held at the Sankalp meeting hall located at Lok Seva Awas.
During the meeting, PHED Secretary B. Kartikeya Dhanji gave a detailed presentation on the operation and maintenance of water supply schemes, repair works, inspection activities and various schemes being implemented by the department, along with their progress and future action plans.
Officials informed the meeting that the activities of the Public Health Engineering Department have been divided into four zones — Patna, East Champaran, Purnea and Munger — for more effective implementation and management.
The meeting was also informed that the department has been undertaking several campaigns to ensure continuous drinking water supply. These include campaigns for cleaning water sources, inspection and repair of water supply systems, testing of water quality, grievance redressal and strengthening block-level storage facilities.
The functioning of the Centralised Grievance Redressal Cell was also reviewed during the meeting. Officials informed the Chief Minister that a total of 3,00,622 complaints had been received between August 15, 2025 and September 28, 2026. Of these, 2,96,179 complaints, or 98.5 per cent, had been resolved.
During the review, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that 100 per cent water supply should be ensured through the Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal scheme. He directed officials to ensure that there was no negligence whatsoever in the implementation of the scheme.
The Chief Minister stressed that every family should continue to receive regular and quality drinking water facilities. He directed officials to ensure that the piped water supply schemes remain fully functional.
He further said that once a schedule for water supply has been fixed, clean drinking water must be made available to all households within the stipulated time.
Choudhary also instructed officials to ensure the prompt resolution of complaints. He said that whenever a complaint is received, it should be addressed without delay.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the need for continuous monitoring of water quality. Regular testing should be carried out to ensure that the quality of drinking water remains satisfactory, he said.
He directed officials to improve maintenance and upkeep under the drinking water supply schemes so that the infrastructure remains operational and households continue to receive uninterrupted and quality drinking water.
The review meeting focused on strengthening the implementation of water supply schemes, improving maintenance mechanisms, ensuring timely grievance redressal and maintaining water quality across Bihar.
