Tulsidas’ Literature Reflects a Natural Harmony of Life Values
Lucknow, Aug 2026 : The 89th Lok Chaupal of the Lok Sanskriti Shodh Sansthan, Uttar Pradesh, was organised on Sunday at the Ishwardham Temple premises in Indira Nagar as part of the fortnight-long celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Goswami Tulsidas.
The programme featured a discussion on Tulsidas’ literary contributions along with musical presentations of his devotional verses. The Chaupal was jointly presided over by Chaupal Chaudhary and renowned singers Padma Gidwani, known for her melodious voice, and Vimal Pant, popularly known as the Kumaon Kokila.
Introducing the theme, Chaupal in-charge Archana Gupta said Goswami Tulsidas connected devotion to Lord Rama with everyday life and took the message of Ram Bhakti to the masses through his writings. She said his literature reflects a natural blend of folk language, folk culture, human emotions and essential values of life.
Institute Secretary Dr Sudha Dwivedi said Tulsidas’ works continue to enrich India’s cultural consciousness and inspire society to uphold important human and moral values even today.
The programme also featured soulful musical renditions of Tulsidas’ verses under the direction of veteran singer Asha Srivastava. Preeti Srivastava presented Umad Ghumad Ke Aaye Badra, while Anuj Srivastava performed Jhoola Dheere Se Jhulao. Jyoti Singh presented Shankar Teri Jata Mein, Gopali Chandra sang Aiso Ko Udar Jag Mahi, and Rupali Srivastava performed Kahan Se Umhi Re Kari Badariya.
Archana Chouksey presented the patriotic song Cheen Sakti Hai Nahin Sarkar Vande Mataram. Sarita Agrawal recited couplets from Tulsidas’ works.
Under the direction of Nivedita Bhattacharya, Praveen Gaur, Lily Saxena, Saumya Goyal, Avansh, Avyukta, Avika, Mihika, Adrika, Ashwi and Karnika presented Jagiye Raghunath Kunwar and Hanumanashtak.
Several other artists also participated in group performances, including Chandana Dwivedi, Suman Sharma, Varda Joshi, Sunita Pandey, Aparna Singh, Manjusha Srivastava, Deepa Sharma, Madhu Mathur, Sindhuja Mittal, Jyoti Kiran Ratan, Jyoti Pandey, Sushma Prakash, Suman Mishra, Kavita Singh and Shikha Srivastava.
The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including institute patron Sharda Pandey, Ranjana Shankar, senior social worker Dr Smita Mishra, senior litterateur Dr Karuna Pandey, Dr Abha Dixit, Raj Narayan Verma, Neelam Verma, Deveshwari Panwar, Dr Raj Kumar Shukla, Neera Mishra and Sangeeta Srivastava, among others.
The cultural gathering highlighted the enduring relevance of Tulsidas’ literary and devotional traditions, bringing together literature, music, folk culture and spiritual expression in a celebration of his contribution to Indian cultural heritage.
