Mumbai to Host ‘He Suranno Chandra Vha’ Celebrating the Musical Heritage of Marathi Theatre

Special musical programme under the theme ‘Warasa Natyasangeetacha’ to be held at Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Natyagruha on October 6

Mumbai, October 2026: A special musical programme, ‘He Suranno Chandra Vha – Warasa Natyasangeetacha’, will be organised on Tuesday, October 6, at 8.30 pm at Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Natyagruha in Vile Parle (East), Mumbai, to take the rich legacy of Marathi theatre music to a new generation.

The programme is being organised by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Maharashtra, under the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra.

The programme aims to present the rich tradition of Natyasangeet that has contributed significantly to Marathi theatre, along with its timeless compositions and heritage of emotive music. The event will offer audiences an opportunity to experience the musical traditions of the golden era of Marathi theatre.

Singers Omkar Prabhughate, Ketaki Chaitanya and Dhananjay Mhaskar will perform a selection of Natyasangeet compositions during the programme. Anagha Modak will serve as the presenter and anchor for the evening.

The musical accompaniment will feature Harshal Katdare on organ, Prasad Padhye on tabla, Rajendra Bhave on violin, Hanumant Rawade on pakhawaj and Atharva Chandorkar on percussion.

Through the performances by the singers and accompanying musicians, audiences will get an opportunity to experience the grandeur and distinctive character of Maharashtra's rich Natyasangeet tradition.

The cultural initiative has been organised under the concept of Cultural Affairs, Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar and under the guidance of Cultural Affairs Department Secretary Dr Kiran Kulkarni.

The Directorate of Cultural Affairs is implementing various cultural initiatives aimed at preserving, promoting and disseminating Maharashtra's rich heritage of Natyasangeet.

Entry to the programme will be free. Passes have been made available at Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Natyagruha from Monday, October 5. Some rows in the auditorium have been reserved.

Director Prashant Khedekar has appealed to music and theatre enthusiasts to attend the programme in large numbers and enjoy the musical evening celebrating the enduring legacy of Natyasangeet.
