New Delhi, Aug 2026 : The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) successfully conducted the NEET-PG 2026 examination on Sunday, with more than 2.65 lakh medical graduates appearing for the postgraduate entrance test across the country.
The examination was scheduled for 2.73 lakh candidates at 1,111 centres spread across 339 cities in all 36 states and Union Territories. According to official figures, 2,65,980 candidates ultimately appeared for the examination.
NBEMS said the nationwide test was conducted largely in a smooth and secure manner, crediting extensive coordination among examination authorities, medical institutions, faculty members, security agencies, technology teams and other stakeholders.
“The successful conduct of the examination across 1,111 centres in 339 cities reflects the extensive coordination among examination authorities, medical institutions, faculty, security agencies, technology teams and other stakeholders,” NBEMS said in a statement.
However, the examination faced a technical disruption at a centre in Jaipur, where the test could not be completed for 2,445 candidates because of power supply issues. To ensure that the affected candidates are not disadvantaged, NBEMS has scheduled a re-examination for them in Jaipur on September 5 during the second half of the day.
The examination body expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to the candidates and said arrangements were being made to ensure that they receive a fair and equitable opportunity. Venue details and other instructions related to the re-examination will be communicated to the affected candidates shortly.
The nationwide examination was conducted under extensive security and monitoring arrangements. NBEMS said real-time surveillance mechanisms were deployed to maintain the integrity of the examination process and respond promptly to any issues.
A total of 2,527 faculty members were appointed as Independent Appraisers to oversee examination arrangements at different centres. In addition, more than 700 senior faculty members, including Deans, Directors, Medical Superintendents and senior professors, were deployed as members of Flying Squads.
The examination authority also activated 16 NBEMS Regional Command Centres across the country to strengthen coordination, supervision and real-time response during the examination.
All examination centres were placed under live CCTV surveillance. The footage was continuously monitored from the NBEMS Command Centre at its headquarters in Dwarka, New Delhi.
A dedicated team of 190 personnel from NBEMS and TCS was deployed for real-time surveillance and monitoring of examination centres across the country. The system was aimed at ensuring transparency, security and adherence to prescribed examination protocols.
NEET-PG is a crucial national-level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate medical courses in India. The large-scale exercise requires coordination among thousands of officials, faculty members, examination centres and security personnel.
NBEMS thanked candidates for their cooperation, patience and trust during the examination. It also acknowledged the efforts of the institutions, faculty members, technical teams, security agencies and other personnel who contributed to conducting NEET-PG 2026 across the country.
The re-examination in Jaipur on September 5 will now remain the key pending exercise following the otherwise nationwide conduct of the examination.
