Birgaon Municipal Corporation gets development projects worth over Rs 135 crore; new works worth around Rs 110 crore announced
Raipur, September 2026: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said there are now no major hurdles in the way of building a developed Chhattisgarh and that the pace of development in the state will accelerate further.
Addressing a development works inauguration and bhoomi pujan programme organised in Birgaon Municipal Corporation area of Raipur district on Wednesday, Sai said the state government was moving ahead with full commitment towards building a developed Chhattisgarh in line with the vision of a developed India.
He said modern infrastructure was being created in cities while civic amenities were being expanded to ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society. “By making effective use of Chhattisgarh’s natural resources, human resources and immense potential, we will together build a prosperous, empowered and developed Chhattisgarh,” he said.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated and performed bhoomi pujan for various development projects worth more than Rs 135 crore in Birgaon. Considering the requirements of the area, he also announced new development works worth around Rs 110 crore.
Sai said Birgaon was a rapidly developing urban area and that its roads, drinking water supply, sanitation, sewerage, sports facilities and other civic infrastructure needed to be strengthened in line with industrial activity and the growing population. He said the state government was working in a planned manner to address these requirements.
Over the past two-and-a-half years, development works worth more than Rs 160 crore have already been sanctioned for the Birgaon Municipal Corporation area, he said.
The Chief Minister said the works inaugurated and launched through bhoomi pujan on Wednesday included more than Rs 94 crore worth of projects related to the municipal corporation and over Rs 38 crore worth of Public Works Department projects. In addition, development works worth around Rs 16 crore were launched under the Nagarotthan Yojana.
Once completed, these projects will expand basic facilities such as roads, drinking water, sanitation and sports infrastructure in Birgaon and surrounding areas and are expected to improve the quality of life of residents.
Birgaon to Benefit from State Capital Region Development
Sai said the state government was moving ahead with plans to develop a State Capital Region comprising Raipur, Durg-Bhilai and surrounding areas, with Birgaon also included in the region.
A long-term roadmap for planned, coordinated and integrated development of the entire region will be prepared under the State Capital Region framework, he said. This will benefit Birgaon in the coming years and give fresh momentum to the development of modern urban infrastructure and civic amenities.
The Chief Minister said development was not limited to constructing roads and buildings but also meant making the daily lives of citizens easier. With this objective, the government was continuously working to improve governance and ease of living, while technology was being used to make government services simpler, more transparent and convenient.
He announced that a model registry office would also be constructed in Birgaon. Ten model registry offices are being developed across the state. Online registration and automatic mutation facilities have already simplified land-related services. The new model registry office will make land registration-related services more convenient for residents of Birgaon and adjoining areas.
Rs 82 Crore Announced for Sewage Treatment Plant
The Chief Minister announced several major development projects for Birgaon, including Rs 82 crore for the construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in the municipal corporation area. The project is expected to strengthen sewage management and improve sanitation standards in the area.
He also announced Rs 10 crore for overhead tanks and pipeline expansion, Rs 5 crore for road and drain construction under the infrastructure head and Rs 5 crore for developing a sports ground at Sarora.
An additional Rs 5 crore was announced for the construction of a Nalanda campus in Birgaon equipped with modern study facilities for students and youth preparing for competitive examinations.
Sai announced Rs 1 crore for streetlights from Vyas Talab Tiraha to Birgaon Nala and Rs 50 lakh for streetlights from Budhwari Bazaar to the Municipal Corporation office. He also announced Rs 50 lakh for electrification and repair work at the Community Health Centre in Rawabhatha, Rs 1 crore for a Sarva Mangalik Bhawan and Rs 89 lakh for an e-library at the Government College.
The Chief Minister also announced the opening of a zonal office of the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board in Birgaon. He said all these initiatives were aimed at providing better basic facilities to citizens and developing the city in accordance with its future requirements.
Residential Leases for Eligible Families After Survey
Sai announced that surveys would be conducted in Rawabhatha, Banjari Nagar, Shaktipara, Mathpara, Sheetalapara, Urkura and Mazdoor Nagar-Sarora areas of Birgaon Municipal Corporation. Eligible residents would subsequently be provided residential leases as per rules.
He said providing housing security to poor and needy families was among the government’s priorities.
Welfare of Poor, Women, Workers and Needy Families a Priority
The Chief Minister said the state government was continuously working to bring positive changes to the lives of poor people, women, workers, farmers, youth and needy families.
Around 1,600 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana are being constructed every day in the state, he said, adding that the government had decided to provide pucca houses to 18 lakh poor families.
Through the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, more than 68 lakh women in the state are receiving regular financial assistance. Thirty-one instalments have been released so far, with more than Rs 20,000 crore provided to beneficiaries, he said.
Sai said more than 5.60 lakh landless agricultural labour families were receiving annual financial assistance of Rs 10,000. The government has also increased the collection rate for tendu leaves and restarted the Charan Paduka Yojana.
Under the Shri Ramlala Darshan Yojana, more than 50,000 devotees have so far travelled to Ayodhya for darshan of Lord Shri Ramlala, he said.
Referring to the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Yojana, the Chief Minister said assistance was being provided to street vendors to strengthen their financial position and expand their businesses.
“No Hurdles Now in Building a Developed Chhattisgarh”
Sai said Naxalism had remained a major obstacle to Chhattisgarh’s development for a long period. He said progress in efforts against Naxalism had opened new avenues for development, particularly in areas that had remained deprived of basic facilities and opportunities for a long time.
He said Chhattisgarh was rich in natural resources, including abundant mineral and forest wealth, fertile land and a capable population. By making better use of these resources and capabilities, the state could reach new heights of development.
The Prime Minister has set a goal of building a developed India by 2047, Sai said, adding that Chhattisgarh would have to play a leading role in achieving this national objective.
Ayurveda an Important Part of India’s Rich Knowledge Tradition
Greeting people on National Ayurveda Day, Sai said Ayurveda was a valuable part of India’s ancient and rich knowledge tradition.
He said the Union government had established the Ministry of Ayush to promote Ayurveda and other Indian systems of medicine. He urged people to adopt healthy lifestyles, remain aware of Ayurveda and benefit from its scientific and traditional knowledge.
Government Committed to Birgaon’s Development: Deputy CM Arun Sao
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao described the occasion as a historic and significant day for Birgaon. Referring to the heavy rain during the programme, he said there had also been a “heavy shower” of development works for Birgaon.
He said the Chief Minister had provided development projects worth more than Rs 135 crore to the area and that these works would help Birgaon move rapidly towards becoming a clean, beautiful, well-organised and better-equipped city.
Sao said the state government was working in a planned manner for Birgaon’s development. He added that MLA Motilal Sahu was also continuously working on the area’s requirements and development projects.
Over the past two-and-a-half years, Birgaon Municipal Corporation has received development works worth more than Rs 160 crore, of which projects worth around Rs 90 crore have already been completed, he said. The expansion of infrastructure and civic facilities would continue in the coming years.
Beneficiaries Receive Scheme Benefits; Sanitation Workers Honoured
During the programme, Chief Minister Sai facilitated house-entry ceremonies for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He also presented symbolic cheques for incentive assistance to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Yojana, Mukhyamantri Grih Nirman Samman Yojana and Noni Suraksha Yojana, among other welfare schemes.
At the beginning of the programme, Sai and other public representatives honoured sanitation workers and sanitation women workers by washing their feet, applying tilak and performing aarti in recognition of their services.
The Chief Minister said sanitation workers play an important role in keeping cities clean and beautiful and that respecting their work and service was the responsibility of society as a whole.
Sai also dedicated two new fire tenders to Birgaon Municipal Corporation, which will strengthen firefighting and emergency response capacity in the municipal area.
He planted a rudraksha sapling on the Government College campus under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, conveying a message of environmental conservation.
MP Brijmohan Agrawal, Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation Chairman Rajiv Agrawal, Leather Craftsmen Board Chairman Dhruv Kumar Mirdha, MLA Motilal Sahu, MLA Anuj Sharma, MLA Bhavana Bohra, Mayor Nandlal Dewangan, Speaker Kriparam Nishad and other public representatives, officials and a large number of citizens were present at the programme.
