Society Must Stand Firmly with Police for Better Law and Order; CLG Members Should Raise Awareness Against Drug Abuse
Jaipur, Aug 2026 : Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said the state government is working with a policy of zero tolerance towards criminals and sensitivity towards the general public. In this context, the role of newly selected Community Liaison Group (CLG) members will be crucial in making Rajasthan free from fear and crime and ensuring a safe environment.
Addressing the orientation programme for newly selected CLG members at Birla Auditorium on Thursday, Sharma said CLG members serve as an important bridge of trust, communication and cooperation between the police and the public. He urged them to work with complete vigilance to further strengthen law and order in the state.
The Chief Minister emphasised that maintaining effective law and order is not the responsibility of the police alone and that society also has an important role to play. While the police work to prevent crime and ensure compliance with the law, full cooperation from citizens is equally essential. CLG members should actively understand the problems faced by people and communicate them to the police and administration, while also explaining police procedures and initiatives to the public.
Sharma said CLG meetings should become an effective platform for discussing genuine problems in local areas. Members should promptly inform the police and administration about anti-social elements, drug trafficking, issues concerning women and children, traffic-related problems and the possibility of social tensions. Even a small piece of timely information can help prevent a major incident, he noted.
The Chief Minister said women and child safety, combating cybercrime and maintaining social harmony are among the state government's priorities. Strong social efforts are needed to keep young people away from drugs. CLG members, he said, can play a vital role in creating greater awareness and encouraging public participation on these issues.
He also urged CLG members to use their discretion to make impartial efforts to resolve minor disputes at the local level. This would allow the police to devote more time and resources to preventing serious crimes. Strengthening the relationship between the police and citizens through trust and cooperation is essential, he said.
For this purpose, CLG members should maintain regular communication with different sections of society, including traders, youth, women, teachers, social workers, senior citizens and elected representatives in their respective areas.
Earlier, the Chief Minister interacted through video conferencing with CLG members from Tonk, Barmer, Dholpur, Jhalawar, Dungarpur and Sri Ganganagar. He also held discussions with members from various districts present at the auditorium regarding law and order and their responsibilities. The CLG members offered several suggestions for strengthening law and order across the state. Sharma encouraged and motivated all the newly selected members during the programme.
Home State Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham said that law and order in Rajasthan is becoming stronger under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. He described the Chief Minister's interaction with CLG members as an important initiative in this direction. He said the state government is continuously working with the objective of putting criminals behind bars. According to him, there has been a 16 per cent decline in all types of crimes in Rajasthan.
Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma said strong coordination between the police and the public is essential for creating a safe society. CLG members play an important bridging role in this effort. He said Rajasthan Police is continuously engaging with CLG members to prevent criminal activities. More than 75,000 youth and over 22,000 Suraksha Sakhis have also been brought into the initiative.
During the orientation programme, CLG members were briefed through a presentation about their responsibilities, their important role and the precautions they need to take while performing their duties. Their contribution in notable cases was also explained through practical examples.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, Additional Chief Secretary Bhaskar A. Sawant, Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar Agarwal and other senior police officials were present on the occasion. More than 1,100 CLG members attended the programme in person, while over 5,000 CLG members from all blocks across Rajasthan participated through video conferencing.
