New Delhi, Sep 2026 : More than 600 internet experts, policymakers, network operators and technology leaders are participating in the 62nd APNIC Conference (APNIC 62) in Mumbai from September 4 to 10, 2026, with discussions focusing on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and the resilience of Internet infrastructure, according to an official statement.
The conference is bringing together members of the Asia-Pacific technical community to deliberate on a range of issues, including AI-powered services, network automation, routing security, cybersecurity and Internet governance.
“As India’s digital ecosystem continues to expand, ensuring secure, resilient and future-ready Internet infrastructure remains a key priority,” said Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Pal said APNIC 62 provides an important platform for India to engage with the wider Asia-Pacific technical community, exchange knowledge and strengthen cooperation towards building an open, inclusive and trusted Internet.
According to the statement, the week-long event features technical workshops, conference sessions, policy meetings and community activities aimed at addressing emerging challenges and strengthening Internet infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region.
The conference is being organised by the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) and hosted by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and the Internet Service Providers Association of India. It is being supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Maharashtra government.
APNIC Director General Jia Rong Low said rapid advances in AI and other major technological and societal changes were placing unprecedented demands on the networks supporting economies and communities.
“APNIC 62 brings the region’s Internet community together to turn shared expertise into practical action for a more secure, resilient and scalable Internet,” Low said.
He also highlighted India’s progress in adopting IPv6, saying the country’s experience demonstrated what could be achieved when technical expertise, investment and collaboration came together.
On the sidelines of APNIC 62, NIXI and APNIC are also set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the deployment of critical Internet infrastructure technologies, particularly IPv6 and routing security.
The proposed cooperation is expected to contribute to improving the security and resilience of India’s Internet ecosystem while supporting its long-term development.
APNIC, headquartered in the Asia-Pacific region, is responsible for managing critical Internet number resources, including Internet Protocol addresses and network identifiers, across 56 economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
The conference comes as governments, businesses and technical communities increasingly focus on ensuring that Internet infrastructure can keep pace with rapid digitalisation, growing dependence on AI-driven services and evolving cybersecurity threats. APNIC 62 is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to share technical expertise and develop collaborative approaches to these challenges.
