Indore, Sept 2026 : Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will visit Indore on September 19 to interact with students as part of his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ initiative, which focuses on issues related to education, government recruitment and unemployment.
Confirming his visit through a social media post on Monday, Gandhi appealed to students to participate in large numbers and share their concerns about the education system and challenges they face.
“I’m coming to Indore on September 19 -- to meet students, to hear you, to talk to you. If you or your loved ones are tormented by the education system and want these conditions to change, you know -- ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ is your collective voice, an opportunity to start the change,” the Rae Bareli MP said in a post on X.
He also urged students to register for the programme through the link shared in his post and participate in the interaction.
“We will discuss in detail every aspect of education and your struggles in Indore,” Gandhi said.
The ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign has been used by the Congress leader to engage directly with students and highlight concerns including question paper leaks, rising education costs, alleged irregularities in government recruitment and unemployment.
Four editions of the initiative have so far been organised in Kota, Dehradun, Prayagraj and Pune. The Pune edition, held on August 22, was specifically organised for female students.
The upcoming Indore programme has also become a subject of political discussion after the Congress was denied permission to hold the event at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Following the denial, the Madhya Pradesh Congress unit arranged an alternative venue by taking approximately 12,000 square metres of land in front of the Regional Park on temporary lease from September 17 to 19.
Gandhi’s scheduled visit has intensified political activity in Madhya Pradesh, with the ruling BJP and Congress exchanging criticism ahead of the event.
On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav criticised Gandhi ahead of his Indore visit and took a swipe at the student outreach programme by referring to it as “Jhooth Ki Goonj”, or “Echo of Lies”.
The Congress, meanwhile, is positioning the Indore programme as an opportunity for students to raise concerns directly with Gandhi and discuss issues affecting their education, career prospects and employment opportunities.
The visit comes at a time when student-related issues, recruitment examinations and unemployment remain prominent subjects in political discourse in Madhya Pradesh and across the country. Gandhi’s interaction is expected to provide another platform for the Congress to highlight these concerns and challenge the policies of the BJP-led government.
