220 kV grid substation successfully commissioned at Birloka in Nagaur
Commitment to provide daytime electricity to farmers moves closer to fulfilment
Jaipur, October 2026 : Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has announced a major pre-Diwali gift for farmers, with the successful commissioning of a 220 kV Grid Substation (GSS) at Birloka in Nagaur district.
The new substation will enable farmers across all 14 districts served by Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam (Ajmer DISCOM) to receive electricity during the daytime in two separate time blocks.
The arrangement is expected to relieve farmers in the region from having to irrigate their fields at night, making agricultural operations safer and more convenient.
Khimsar and Surrounding Areas to Benefit
Until now, daytime electricity supply in two blocks had been implemented for farmers in 13 of the 14 districts served by Ajmer DISCOM. With the commissioning of the Birloka GSS, the facility will now be extended to the remaining district.
The project will benefit Birloka, Narwa, Hisaba, Panchla Siddha, Khimsar, Panchodi and surrounding areas.
In particular, it will strengthen the arrangement for providing farmers across the entire Khimsar tehsil with electricity during the daytime in two separate blocks.
Reduced Power Losses and Improved Supply Quality
Built at an estimated cost of ₹170 crore, the grid substation is equipped with a 160 MVA-capacity 220/132 kV power transformer.
The use of an advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system will enable better utilisation in Nagaur district of solar energy generated in western Rajasthan.
The project is also expected to reduce electricity transmission and distribution losses and improve voltage levels, power supply quality and reliability.
Farmers in 26 Rajasthan Districts Already Receiving Daytime Power
Giving the highest priority to farmers' interests, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced in the state Budget that daytime electricity supply would be extended to farmers across Rajasthan by 2027.
The state government has been working towards fulfilling this commitment, and farmers in 26 districts are already receiving electricity during the daytime.
The commissioning of the Birloka grid substation marks another step towards extending daytime power supply to farmers across Rajasthan.
