Festivities feature mehendi, folk songs, traditional dances and monsoon swings, with women participating enthusiastically

New Delhi, August 2026 : Amid the drizzle of the monsoon and the festive spirit of Teej, Delhi Haat in Pitampura came alive with the colours of Hariyali Teej. The Teej celebrations, marked by the earthy fragrance of mehendi, melodious folk songs and vibrant traditional dances, saw Delhi’s women participate with enthusiasm. Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta also joined the celebrations, shared the festive joy with the women and extended her greetings to them on the occasion.
MLAs Shri Raj Kumar Bhatia, Shri Tilak Ram Gupta and Smt. Poonam Sharma, along with a large number of women and other dignitaries, were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said Hariyali Teej was not merely a festival, but a celebration of faith, love, nature and women’s power. Amid the greenery of the monsoon and the colours of the festivities, the festival offers an opportunity to remember the sacred story of the enduring love and reunion of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. She said such festivals not only keep cultural traditions alive but also strengthen love, harmony and a sense of togetherness in society.
CM Rekha Gupta said the way women celebrated Teej at Delhi Haat in Pitampura, showcasing the beauty of their culture through traditional attire, mehendi, folk songs and dances, was a vibrant reflection of our rich heritage. The Delhi Government is making efforts to continuously promote such cultural platforms in the Capital, she said, where folk traditions and art can be passed on to the younger generation while also providing artists and craftspeople an opportunity to showcase their talent.
The Chief Minister extended her heartfelt wishes to all women on Hariyali Teej and prayed that Lord Mahadev and Goddess Parvati bless everyone with happiness, peace, prosperity and joy. She said the vibrancy of Delhi’s traditions and festivals further strengthens the cultural soul of the city.
The two-day Teej festival, organised by the Delhi Tourism Department, was held on August 8 and 9 at Delhi Haat in Pitampura and INA. The festival featured competitions for women, including mehendi, bindi, rangoli, ‘Teej Queen-Miss Teej 2026’ and Best Dress Female. For children and families, attractions included a kids’ zone, monsoon swings, surprise gifts and musical chairs. Around 20 food stalls and 80 handicraft and handloom stalls were also set up at the festival, offering visitors an experience of traditional cuisine and local art and crafts. The event also provided local artisans, craftspeople and small entrepreneurs with a platform to showcase their products and access new opportunities.
