Raipur, August 2026 : A grand Tiranga Yatra was organised in Kanker today under the chief presence of Deputy Chief Minister and Kanker district in-charge Minister Arun Sao. Elected representatives, ex-servicemen, students, officers, employees and city residents participated in large numbers in the 2.5-km Tiranga Yatra walkathon, which was marked by exceptional enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. MLA Asharam Netam and Chairperson of the Chhattisgarh Handicrafts Board Shalini Rajput also participated in the Tiranga Yatra.
Led by Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, the Tiranga Yatra began from the sports ground of Government Narhardev Excellence English Medium School and concluded at the newly constructed Mini Stadium premises after passing through Nagar Ghadi Chowk, Upar-Neeche Road, Masjid Chowk and Gandhi Chowk. A large number of elected representatives, ex-servicemen, students, officers, employees, dignitaries, media representatives and office-bearers of voluntary organisations enthusiastically participated in the rally carrying the national flag in their hands.
The yatra began with the singing of the national song Vande Mataram. Citizens welcomed the participants at various places by showering flowers and raised patriotic slogans. Residents distributed chocolates and toffees to encourage the students. The district-level Tiranga Yatra was organised on the occasion of the completion of 150 years of the song Vande Mataram, as per the directions of the Union Ministry of Culture and the Culture Department of the Chhattisgarh government.
92-Foot Tiranga Becomes the Centre of Attraction
Students participating in the Tiranga Yatra displayed a 92-foot-long and 5-foot-wide national flag. The flag was carried and waved along various roads, routes and intersections of the city, becoming a major attraction for people. Girls from the band troupe of St. Michael English School marched in the rally while playing musical instruments to the tune of the national song.
As per the directions of the Central and state governments, the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ programme is being organised from August 9 to August 17. Through the Tiranga Yatra, citizens are being encouraged to hoist the national flag at their homes and sing the national song Vande Mataram, with the aim of awakening a sense of patriotism and respect for the national flag among the people.
Kanker Municipal Council President Arun Kaushik, Zila Panchayat President Kiran Nareti, Collector Nilesh Kumar Mahadev Kshirsagar, SP Nikhil Rakhecha, Mahesh Jain, Satish Latia, Rahul Tikreha, Raja Devnani, Zila Panchayat Vice-President Tara Thakur, Kanker Municipal Council Vice-President Uttam Yadav, former MLA Sumitra Markole, Zila Panchayat CEO Haresh Mandavi, and District Education Officer and Nodal Officer Ramesh Nishad were also present during the Tiranga Yatra.
