Trump Welcomes Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan Defence Pact as ‘Big, Bold’ Step

Washington, Aug 2026 : US President Donald Trump has welcomed the recently signed Mecca Joint Defence Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan, describing the trilateral security pact as an important step towards greater regional cooperation.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he was “very happy” that the three countries had signed the agreement, arguing that it demonstrated a growing willingness among Middle Eastern and regional powers to strengthen their collective defence capabilities.

Trump described the pact as a “BIG, BOLD, IMPORTANT FIRST STEP”, saying it could help countries in the region defend themselves more effectively.

The agreement was signed on August 7 against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East and the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Iran. The violence has also affected the wider region, including through attacks by Iran-backed Houthi forces.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the agreement establishes the principle that an attack against one member would be treated as an attack against all three. Islamabad said the pact is aimed at strengthening collective deterrence and enhancing security cooperation among the participating nations.

The agreement also outlines a shared commitment to strengthening collective security while promoting peace, stability and security in the region and beyond.

Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have additionally committed to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the conflict between Iran and the United States, potentially giving the new security partnership a wider diplomatic role.
