Washington, Oct 2026 : US President Donald Trump has said that the ongoing war with Iran will end “very soon”, expressing confidence that the conclusion of the conflict would lead to lower oil and energy prices and provide relief to the American economy. However, he did not specify a timeline for ending the war or clarify whether Washington was engaged in negotiations with Tehran.
Speaking to reporters before travelling from Arizona to Montana for an election rally, Trump reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remained the primary objective of the US military campaign. He asserted that Washington had achieved its principal military goal but offered no details about the next steps towards ending the conflict.
Earlier, addressing a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, Trump defended the US military operations against Iran, claiming that American strikes had significantly weakened the country’s military capabilities, including its navy and air force.
He suggested that the extent of the military campaign had complicated efforts to identify an Iranian official with whom Washington could negotiate. Referring to the impact of the strikes on Iran’s leadership, Trump remarked, “Perhaps I have gone too far. I don’t know whom to talk to.”
The president did not provide further details about the Iranian officials he was referring to or indicate whether any diplomatic channel remained active.
Trump Claims US Controls Strait of Hormuz
Trump also claimed that the United States had established complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime routes for transporting crude oil and natural gas.
According to the president, more oil was passing through the strategic waterway than before, a development he attributed to American naval operations. He described the US military presence in the region as a “wall of steel”, suggesting that it had strengthened Washington’s position in the conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical link in global energy supplies, and disruptions to shipping through the route can affect international oil prices, transportation costs and energy markets.
Trump maintained that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons was sufficiently important to justify the economic consequences of military action. His remarks came amid concerns about the conflict’s potential impact on energy supplies and the wider global economy.
President Defends Economic Performance
Trump also addressed inflation and energy prices, defending his administration’s economic record. Asked whether he had discussed recent inflation figures with Kevin Warsh, he said the inflation rate over the previous three months had been 1.7 per cent.
The president argued that energy prices remained comparatively affordable despite the conflict with Iran. He invited comparisons with oil prices during the administration of former President Joe Biden, asserting that current prices remained lower despite the military confrontation.
However, Trump did not directly answer a question about the possibility of interest rate increases.
His comments reflected an effort to reassure Americans that the conflict would not undermine the broader economic outlook. Nevertheless, the duration of the war, the future of diplomatic engagement and the potential consequences for global energy markets remain uncertain.
While Trump expressed confidence that the fighting would end soon, he provided no specific timetable or concrete details about a possible settlement. The course of the conflict and developments around the Strait of Hormuz are likely to remain important factors influencing oil prices and economic expectations in the coming weeks.
