Washington Sundar’s Fifty Guides Gujarat Titans to 168 Against Sunrisers Hyderabad
Delhi, May 2026 : Gujarat Titans posted 168/5 in their allotted 20 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL clash, setting a target of 169 runs for the Hyderabad side.
Washington Sundar played the most crucial innings for Gujarat Titans, scoring a composed and valuable 50 off 33 deliveries. His knock included seven boundaries and one six and helped stabilise the innings after a slow start by the Titans. Sundar brought up his half-century with a single in the final over, drawing loud applause from the spectators at the stadium.
However, his innings ended immediately after reaching the milestone. Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Sakib Hussain dismissed him with a clever slower delivery. Attempting an aggressive shot, Sundar mistimed the ball, which took a top edge towards square leg. Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan completed an impressive diving catch to end the innings.
Jason Holder also played an important cameo in the closing overs, adding quick runs to push Gujarat Titans to a competitive total. His late acceleration provided much-needed momentum to the innings during the death overs.
For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sakib Hussain emerged as one of the standout bowlers. He bowled effectively in the final overs and picked up a key wicket at a crucial moment. The Hyderabad bowlers managed to control the scoring rate for most of the innings, especially during the powerplay, where Gujarat struggled to find early momentum.
Despite the slow beginning, Gujarat Titans recovered well through a solid middle-order partnership and Washington Sundar’s responsible batting performance. Their total of 168 gives the bowlers something to defend, although the pitch appeared favourable for batting later in the evening.
Sunrisers Hyderabad now face an important chase of 169 runs in what promises to be an exciting contest. With their strong batting line-up, the match is expected to go down to the wire as both teams continue their push for crucial points in the IPL season.
