Mass Shooting Near Ohio Festival Leaves 12 Injured; Police Hunt for Suspects
Washington, June 2026 : At least 12 people were injured in a mass shooting near a community festival in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, prompting a large-scale police response and a search for multiple suspects. Authorities said two of the victims were in critical condition as investigators worked to determine the circumstances behind the violence.
The shooting occurred on Saturday afternoon near the popular Old West End Festival, an annual community event that attracts thousands of visitors with live music, food stalls, shopping and historic house tours.
According to Toledo Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan, preliminary investigations suggest that at least two individuals may have been exchanging gunfire when the shooting erupted. Police have not yet identified or arrested the suspects and have urged residents to avoid the surrounding area while the investigation continues.
Officers from the Toledo Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 5:37 p.m. local time. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities have not yet released details about the victims or the motives behind the incident. Investigators are reviewing evidence and speaking with witnesses in an effort to piece together what happened.
The shooting is the latest in a series of deadly gun violence incidents reported across the United States in recent weeks.
Earlier this week, a teenager was killed and three other people were injured in a shooting that occurred after a high school graduation ceremony in Northern California. According to local media reports, the violence broke out in a parking lot near the school shortly after the event concluded.
Another major shooting took place on May 18 at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Southern California. Five people died in that incident, including three victims and two suspected shooters.
The San Diego Police Department said officers responded to reports of an active shooter at the Islamic centre, located on Eckstrom Avenue, shortly before noon. Police arrived within minutes and discovered three deceased individuals outside the building.
Authorities also received reports of additional gunfire a short distance away from the centre. A landscaper working in the area was reportedly targeted but escaped without injury.
Soon after, police located a vehicle in a nearby street containing two deceased males believed to have carried out the attack. Investigators identified the suspects as teenagers aged 17 and 18.
San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said the two suspects appeared to have died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Officials added that, given the location and circumstances of the attack, investigators were treating the case as a possible hate crime pending further findings.
The latest shooting in Toledo has once again highlighted concerns about gun violence in the United States. Community leaders and law enforcement agencies continue to face growing pressure to address public safety challenges as mass shootings remain a recurring issue across the country.
As investigators continue their search for those responsible for the Ohio shooting, officials have appealed to the public for information that could assist in identifying the suspects and determining the motive behind the attack.
Police said updates would be released as the investigation progresses.
