Indian Women’s Relay Team Strikes Gold, Sets New Meet Record in Taipei

New Taipei City, June 2026: India’s women’s 4x100m relay team delivered a stunning performance at the New Taipei City Athletics Open, clinching the gold medal and establishing a new meet record at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event held in Taiwan on Saturday.

The Indian quartet of Srabani Nanda, S.S. Sneha, Sudeshna Shivankar, and Tamanna produced a flawless run at the Banqiao Stadium, crossing the finish line in an impressive 44.07 seconds. Their effort not only secured the top spot on the podium but also broke the previous meet record, underlining India’s growing strength in sprint relay events on the international stage.

India’s relay team finished comfortably ahead of Vietnam, which claimed the silver medal. The margin of victory was a significant 0.31 seconds, highlighting the dominance of the Indian athletes throughout the race. The performance is expected to boost the team’s confidence as it prepares for upcoming international competitions.

India’s success at the meet was not limited to the track. Promising long jumper Shaili Singh added another gold medal to the country’s tally by emerging victorious in the women’s long jump event. Shaili recorded a best leap of 6.24 metres, outperforming the rest of the field and continuing her steady rise in Indian athletics.

On the track, Tejas Shirse also delivered a noteworthy performance by winning the silver medal in the men’s 110m hurdles. Competing against a strong field, Shirse showcased excellent form and technique to finish among the top two athletes. His performance further reinforced his reputation as one of India’s most promising sprint hurdlers.

Shirse has enjoyed a productive season. Earlier this year, he won the gold medal at the national championships with a time of 13.50 seconds. During that competition, he improved upon his own meet record of 13.61 seconds. However, despite the achievement, he narrowly missed the qualifying standard of 13.39 seconds required for a berth at the Commonwealth Games.

The achievements in Taiwan come on the back of encouraging performances by Indian athletes at the recent U20 Athletics Championships. India collected a record haul of 19 medals at the event. The women’s 4x100m relay team, comprising Kajal Hirabhai Vaja, Bhavana G, Aarti, and Nipam, secured a silver medal with a timing of 45.05 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Indian men’s 4x400m relay team of Piyush Raj, Sayed Sabeer, Ranjith Kumar S, and Mohammed Ashfaq also impressed. The quartet improved the meet record of 3:07.38 and clocked 3:05.54, though they ultimately finished third.

India’s impressive performances across events in New Taipei City once again highlighted the country’s growing depth and competitiveness in athletics on the international circuit.
