Telangana CM Pushes Skill Training, Research and Overseas Job Support

Hyderabad, July 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday proposed setting up a dedicated research centre at the Young India Skill University to promote innovation and strengthen the state’s focus on skill development and human capital.

During a review meeting on the Skill, Human Capital and Knowledge Training Initiatives (SHAKTI) Department, the Chief Minister also called for the creation of a specialised department at the university to teach foreign languages, including German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Russian.

Revanth Reddy directed officials to explore the possibility of engaging instructors from the respective countries, along with Indian experts proficient in these languages, to provide quality training to students and job seekers.

The Chief Minister also asked officials to examine the feasibility of extending scholarships to candidates pursuing training for blue-collar employment, on the lines of overseas scholarships currently provided to students pursuing higher education.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, he emphasised that the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM) should take complete responsibility for the overseas employment process. This would include providing job-oriented training, organising recruitment and job fairs, facilitating passports and connecting trained candidates with employment opportunities in foreign countries.

The Chief Minister said the initiative was particularly important for workers from North Telangana, many of whom migrate to Middle Eastern countries in search of employment and sometimes face exploitation or fraud by agents.

He directed TOMCOM to assist such workers in obtaining passports and establish formal agreements with manpower agencies operating in destination countries. Such agreements, he said, would enable TOMCOM to intervene effectively if workers faced difficulties or disputes after reaching foreign countries.

Revanth Reddy also instructed officials to compile details of agents involved in overseas recruitment and maintain records of every worker sent abroad through them. The system, he said, would improve accountability and help protect workers from fraudulent recruitment practices.

The Chief Minister further announced that a former IFS officer would be appointed as CEO of TOMCOM to oversee and strengthen the organisation’s operations.

As part of the government’s efforts to expand employment opportunities, Revanth Reddy suggested that job seekers should receive training in Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) driving, which could open up employment opportunities both within India and overseas.

He also emphasised the importance of industry exposure for students. Students pursuing courses in government engineering colleges, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Advanced Training Centres (ATCs) and polytechnic colleges should be provided opportunities to undertake internships with major companies, he said.

According to the Chief Minister, internships undertaken alongside academic studies would allow students to gain practical experience, develop industry-relevant skills and earn stipends while completing their education.

Revanth Reddy also called for the introduction of specialised courses in electric vehicle servicing and drone technology at ATCs. With electric vehicles becoming increasingly common, he said there would be growing demand for trained technicians capable of servicing and maintaining them.

Similarly, he highlighted the expanding use of drones in agriculture and stressed the need to create a skilled workforce capable of operating, maintaining and servicing drone-based technologies.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the growing demand for trained nursing professionals in India and overseas. He pointed to the ageing populations in several developed countries and the resulting demand for home-based nursing and healthcare services.

He said permissions were being granted for the establishment of nursing colleges to meet the growing requirement for trained personnel and create new employment opportunities for Telangana’s youth.

On Friday, Revanth Reddy also held a review meeting on the Energy Department in the presence of Minister Vivek Venkataswamy.

The meeting was attended by SHAKTI Minister Vivek Venkataswamy, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister N. Sridhar, Energy Secretary Harichandana, Director of Employment and Training Nirmala Kanthi Wesley, Young India Skill University Vice-Chancellor Subbarao and other senior officials.

The Chief Minister’s proposals are aimed at linking education and skill development more closely with emerging employment opportunities, while strengthening support systems for Telangana workers seeking jobs abroad.
