25th Bharat Rang Festival Held in Aizawl
Aizawl, February 2026 : Today at 11:00 AM, the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026 was held at Vanapa Hall, Aizawl, organized jointly by the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi and the Art & Culture Department, Government of Mizoram. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Carol V.L.M.S. Dawngkimi, Director, Art & Culture Department.
During the inaugural session, Ms. Carol V.L.M.S. Dawngkimi highlighted the significance of the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026 in promoting theatre arts. She emphasized that this festival, organized by the National School of Drama (NSD), provides a unique platform for showcasing innovative performances. She also noted the contribution of students from the Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), who have actively participated in drama, traditional music, and theatre training organized by the Art & Culture Department. These students have gained exposure, experience, and guidance through such programs, which is crucial for their future development in performing arts.

During the event, Mr. Shantanu Bose, Dean of NSD, addressed the gathering and praised Mizoram for its rich and vibrant theatre culture. He acknowledged the enthusiastic participation of local youth and highlighted how theatre festivals like Bharat Rang Mahotsav encourage engagement with performing arts and provide a platform for showcasing local talent. He further mentioned that this festival is an opportunity for Mizoram to collaborate with national theatre institutions.
The 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026 originally began in New Delhi on 28th January 2026. The festival is celebrated across India, including Union Territories and States, and also features participants from five continents, making it a prominent international theatre festival. Bharat Rang Mahotsav is recognized as one of India’s largest theatre festivals, and the NSD uses this platform to promote theatre culture across the country.
In today’s Aizawl performance at Vanapa Hall, the National School of Drama presented an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, titled “Flesh”. The script for the performance was adapted locally by Chawngmawii, Hrangchhuana, and Mr. M.S. Ralte, Drama Instructor at IMFA. The performance also involved students from Sikulpui School and trainees from IMFA, who contributed significantly to the enactment, demonstrating the successful collaboration between local talent and national theatre experts.
