Netanyahu Defends Military Action, Says Iran Targets Civilians While Israel and US Strike Terror Networks

Washington, March 2026 : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly defended recent military action against Iran, accusing Tehran of deliberately targeting civilians and contrasting that approach with what he described as Israel’s and America’s focus on combating “mass terrorists.” He also praised US President Donald Trump as a “resolute” leader whose decisiveness, he said, made the operation possible.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Netanyahu used stark imagery to describe Iranian ballistic missile attacks. He said such weapons, travelling at extreme speeds and carrying massive explosive power, had been used against civilian targets, including religious sites. Citing a recent strike, he alleged that missiles slammed into a synagogue area, resulting in the deaths of civilians.

Netanyahu drew a sharp moral and strategic distinction between Iran and its adversaries. According to him, the leadership in Tehran deliberately targets non-combatants, while Israel and the United States direct their military efforts at terrorist organisations and hostile military infrastructure. “That’s the difference in a nutshell,” he said, adding that democratic nations must act to protect not only themselves but also the wider world from what he described as violent extremism emanating from Iran.

The Israeli leader argued that the latest military action was unavoidable, claiming Iran had continued to push ahead with dangerous capabilities despite earlier strikes on its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes. He said that previous operations should have served as a warning to Tehran but instead prompted it to accelerate and harden its efforts.

According to Netanyahu, Iranian authorities began constructing new underground facilities designed to shield critical programmes from future attacks. He claimed these bunkers could, within months, make Iran’s missile and nuclear ambitions effectively immune to military intervention. “If no action was taken now,” he warned, “no action could be taken in the future.”

Netanyahu went on to argue that such developments would have given Iran unprecedented leverage. He suggested Tehran could eventually threaten or blackmail other nations, including the United States, while destabilising large parts of the region. In his view, delaying action would have allowed Iran to reach a point where meaningful deterrence was no longer possible.

In that context, Netanyahu credited President Trump’s leadership, describing him as decisive and unafraid to act when confronted with strategic threats. He said strong US leadership, combined with close cooperation between Washington and Israel, was essential to preventing Iran from gaining what he called “immunity from future action.”

The Israeli prime minister emphasised that the alliance between the two countries was currently at one of its strongest points. He said the level of coordination and trust made it possible to act swiftly and effectively. “We are very strong and able partners,” he noted, adding that the decision to move now was driven by both urgency and shared strategic interests.

Netanyahu concluded by warning that failure to act would have emboldened what he termed a “mass murder regime,” increasing the likelihood of wider regional confrontation in the future. The recent operation, he said, was intended to prevent that outcome and to reinforce a clear message of deterrence.
