KTR Threatens Delhi Protest Over Telangana Youth Jobs, Slams Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad, Aug 2026 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday stepped up his attack on the Congress leadership over employment issues in Telangana, threatening to organise a protest outside Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s residence in Delhi if the Congress government fails to fulfil its promises to the state’s youth.

Addressing a press conference, the former Telangana minister accused Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of failing to honour commitments made to young people ahead of the Assembly elections, particularly the promise to provide 2 lakh jobs.

KTR alleged that Rahul Gandhi had promised that 2 lakh government jobs would be filled during the first year of the Congress government, but claimed that fewer than 10,000 jobs had been filled in two years. He also questioned the government’s decision to issue recruitment notifications for only around 7,000 police posts despite, according to him, the department having nearly 20,000 vacancies.

“Congress deceived people with its pre-election declarations. Even the ‘Job Calendar’ tabled in the legislature has gone nowhere,” KTR said, alleging that none of the 24 commitments contained in the Youth and Student Declarations had been fulfilled.

The BRS leader also referred to the case of a student named Venu from Khammam, who, he said, attempted suicide over delays in recruitment notifications for Group I-IV posts and was fighting for his life. KTR claimed that the student had left a handwritten note seeking answers from Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

According to KTR, the student had demanded that the Telangana government introduce annual recruitment calendars on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission.

“Where is Rahul Gandhi while young people here are resorting to suicide? The youth of Telangana want accountability, and they will not remain silent,” KTR said, describing the alleged suicide note as a “charge sheet” against what he called the Congress government’s ineffective governance.

While criticising the government, KTR appealed to unemployed youth not to take extreme steps. He assured them that the BRS would fill vacant posts if it returned to power.

KTR also targeted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over his alleged remarks describing engineers as “criminal waste”. Questioning Rahul Gandhi’s silence over the statement, he accused the Congress leadership of adopting different standards when dealing with protests in Congress-ruled states.

“Neither Rahul nor Revanth has the courage to come forward and speak to the students. Rahul rushes to the scene if lathi-charges occur in other states. He never shows up when lathi-charges occur in Congress-ruled states,” KTR said.

He also made personal remarks questioning Revanth Reddy’s educational and competitive examination background, asking whether the Chief Minister had ever appeared for a competitive examination or interview.

The BRS leader further criticised the Telangana government over the state’s position in ease of doing business. He claimed that Telangana had slipped from first to 13th position after the Congress came to power, attributing the alleged decline to what he described as a lack of progressive policies and a negative business environment.

KTR also cited NASSCOM and STPI while claiming that technology-sector employment had declined in Telangana following the change in government.

On the anti-paper leak legislation passed by Parliament, KTR said legislation alone could not resolve the problem unless it was properly implemented. He said the BRS welcomed any measure intended to protect students but questioned how the law would be enforced and how the Centre and states would coordinate its implementation.

“A bill alone achieves nothing. What matters is implementation and intent,” he said, adding that the effectiveness of the legislation would depend on its execution.

KTR’s remarks come amid growing political debate in Telangana over government recruitment, unemployment and the implementation of electoral promises. His threat to protest in Delhi signals an attempt by the BRS to escalate the employment issue beyond the state and directly challenge the Congress leadership at the national level.
