Bypoll Results: Vote Counting Underway in MP, Bihar and Gujarat

New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Counting of votes for Assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia, Bihar’s Bankipur and Gujarat’s Manjalpur constituencies began on Monday morning amid tight security, with the results expected to be declared later in the day.

The bypolls, held on July 30, have attracted considerable political attention as their outcomes could carry significance for the major parties in the three states.

In Madhya Pradesh, the Datia Assembly constituency recorded a voter turnout of 71.44 per cent during polling. The main contest is between BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari and Congress nominee Ghanshyam Singh. Both parties have expressed confidence about securing victory.

The Datia by-election is also being closely watched as it represents the first electoral test for newly appointed BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal. The outcome could therefore have implications not only for the party’s electoral standing but also for its organisational leadership in the state.

In Bihar, counting for the Bankipur Assembly by-election is underway at Kala Bhawan in Patna under extensive security arrangements. The electoral fate of 25 candidates will be decided through the counting process.

Officials have implemented elaborate security measures around the counting centre. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) remained under a three-layer security cover until counting commenced, with authorities maintaining strict arrangements to ensure the process proceeds smoothly and securely.

Meanwhile, counting is also underway for the Manjalpur Assembly by-election in Gujarat. The election was necessitated by the death of BJP MLA and former minister Yogesh Patel.

Manjalpur recorded a voter turnout of 37.5 per cent during polling on July 30. The principal contest is between BJP candidate Satish Govindbhai Patel and Congress leader Bhikhabhai Rabari.

Political parties in all three constituencies are closely monitoring the emerging counting trends as officials proceed with the tabulation of votes.

The results are expected to provide an indication of voter sentiment in the respective constituencies and could offer political parties valuable feedback ahead of future electoral contests.

With counting underway simultaneously in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Gujarat, attention remains focused on the performance of the BJP and Congress candidates and the eventual margins of victory. The final results for all three constituencies are expected to be announced later on Monday.
