Disabled people are not a burden on the society: Governor Deka
Divya Kala Shakti’ program was concluded here today under the chief hospitality of Governor Shri Ramen Deka. In which Divyaangjans displayed their artistic talent. On this occasion, the first lady of the state Smt. Rani Deka Kakoti, Raipur MP Shri Brijmohan Agarwal, public representatives and Divyaang entrepreneurs and artists from all over the country were present.
Governor Shri Deka said on this occasion that Divyaangjans are not a burden on the society but contribute to the progress of the nation. He said that Divyaangjans should not be considered as an object of sympathy. There should be a change in the attitude of the society towards them. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, everyone including Divyaangjans has been included inclusively under ‘Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas’. Divyaangjans have to be made to feel that they are also an important part of the society. For their development, more attention will have to be paid to accessible infrastructure in public places, availability of accessible means of transport, easy access to technology. Such stories should be included in the curriculum of children, which will awaken the feeling of compassion towards the disabled, but they should treat them like normal people.
Governor Shri Deka said that organizing programs like “Divya Kala Mela and Divya Kala Shakti” by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India, to showcase the talents of the disabled and to empower them is a very commendable step. Such events make the disabled feel that the whole society stands with them and encourages them.
Governor Shri Deka said that many schemes are being run by the Government of India as well as the Chhattisgarh Government to make the life of the disabled easier. Along with assistive devices, loans are also being provided to the disabled by the department at low interest rates. He said that along with educating the disabled, providing them employment opportunities, providing vocational training, giving priority in housing allotment and giving special assistance to their families, the disabled will also be able to contribute equally in the progress of the society and the nation.
On this occasion, Raipur MP Shri Brijmohan Agrawal said that Divyangjans have different kinds of specialties and they are performing their duties very well in many fields. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shri Virendra Kumar for announcing the construction of Divyang Park in Raipur. It is noteworthy that from 17 to 22 August, Divyang craftsmen and entrepreneurs from 16 states are marketing their crafts in Raipur, which has been highly appreciated by the people of Chhattisgarh.
