Trump Says US “Obliterated” Military Targets on Iran’s Kharg Island in Major Airstrike

Washington, March 2026 : The United States has carried out a major airstrike on Iran’s strategically important Kharg Island, with Donald Trump claiming American forces “totally obliterated” military targets on the island while deliberately avoiding damage to its crucial oil infrastructure.

In a statement posted on social media, Trump said the bombing raid was ordered directly by him and carried out by the United States Central Command. According to the president, the operation was one of the most powerful military strikes ever conducted in the Middle East.

“Moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East and totally obliterated every military target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island,” Trump wrote.

Despite the scale of the strike, Trump said US forces intentionally spared the island’s energy facilities, which serve as Iran’s primary oil export infrastructure. He noted that the US military had the capability to destroy those installations but chose not to do so.

“Our weapons are the most powerful and sophisticated that the world has ever known, but, for reasons of decency, I have chosen not to wipe out the oil infrastructure on the island,” he said.

However, Trump warned that the decision could change if Iran interferes with maritime traffic in the region, particularly in the vital shipping corridor linking the Persian Gulf to global markets.

“If Iran, or anyone else, does anything to interfere with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision,” the US president said.

The Strait of Hormuz is widely regarded as one of the most critical energy transit routes in the world, carrying a large share of global oil shipments every day. Disruptions in the waterway can significantly affect international energy markets and global shipping routes.

Trump also issued a strong warning to Iran’s leadership and military establishment, claiming that Tehran would be unable to defend itself against further American strikes if tensions escalate.

“Iran has no ability to defend anything that we want to attack — there is nothing they can do about it,” he said, adding that Washington remains determined to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

“Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, nor will it have the ability to threaten the United States, the Middle East or the world,” Trump stated.

He further urged Iran’s military and authorities to halt hostilities, warning that continued confrontation could lead to further damage to the country.

Reports indicate that the US strike targeted military installations on Kharg Island, including facilities used to store missiles and naval mines, while leaving economic oil facilities largely untouched.

Kharg Island, located roughly 20 miles off Iran’s southern coast in the Persian Gulf, is considered one of Tehran’s most strategically important energy assets. The island hosts major oil storage terminals and export facilities that handle a large share of Iran’s crude shipments to international markets.

Analysts say the attack marks a major escalation in the ongoing confrontation between the United States and Iran, raising concerns about regional stability and the security of global energy supplies.
