Indian Airlines Operate Limited West Asia Flights Amid Uncertainty, Advise Passengers to Stay Alert
New Delhi, March 2026 : As tensions continue to evolve in the Middle East, Indian airlines have announced limited but ongoing flight operations for March 22, while urging passengers to remain vigilant and check for last-minute updates before travel.
Low-cost carrier IndiGo confirmed that it will operate select flights on Sunday, depending on safety conditions and regulatory approvals. The airline advised passengers to verify their flight status prior to heading to the airport, given the fluid situation in the region.
In a message shared on social media platform X, IndiGo stated that its teams are working round the clock to assist travellers and ensure connectivity during the uncertainty. The airline emphasised its commitment to customer safety and convenience, noting that all operational decisions are being guided by passenger and crew well-being.
Meanwhile, Air India and Air India Express announced that they will jointly operate around 50 flights—both scheduled and special services—to and from West Asia on March 22. The move is aimed at maintaining essential connectivity while adapting to rapidly changing conditions.
According to a joint statement, the airlines will continue regular operations to key destinations such as Jeddah and Muscat. A total of 20 flights are scheduled between India and Jeddah, with Air India operating return services from Delhi and Mumbai, while Air India Express will connect cities including Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and Kozhikode.
In addition, Air India Express will operate eight scheduled flights linking Indian cities such as Delhi, Kochi, Mumbai, and Kannur with Muscat. These routes remain critical for both passenger movement and regional connectivity.
Beyond regular schedules, the airlines also plan to operate approximately 30 non-scheduled or special flights to destinations across the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. However, these services will depend on slot availability, operational feasibility, and prevailing conditions at departure and arrival points.
Airlines have clarified that all such flights are being operated with necessary approvals from Indian and local aviation authorities, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
The announcements come at a time when air travel across the Middle East is facing disruptions due to geopolitical tensions, prompting airlines to adopt flexible schedules. Passengers have been strongly advised to stay updated through official airline channels and allow extra time for travel.
Despite the challenges, Indian carriers continue to prioritise passenger safety while striving to maintain essential air links with the region.
