Adventure in Nature’s Lap – Moharenga Nature Safari Launched

Raipur, March 2026: A new eco-tourism destination, “Moharenga Nature Safari,” has been launched in village Moharenga near Kharora in Raipur district, offering visitors a chance to experience nature without harming the environment while respecting local culture and wildlife.

The initiative focuses on conservation of forests and wildlife, environmental education, and creating livelihood opportunities for local communities. The newly introduced facilities, including a gypsy safari and cottages, were inaugurated in the presence of MLA Kiran Singhdev, Anuj Sharma, and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Arun Kumar Pandey, along with other senior officials.

Forest and Climate Change Minister Kedar Kashyap said that the state government and forest department are continuously working to promote tourism in Chhattisgarh. He highlighted that the state is known for its dense forests and rich biodiversity, and the aim is not just tourism development but maintaining a balance between nature and human activity. He added that such eco-tourism projects will bring tourists closer to nature while increasing environmental awareness and generating employment for local communities.

Located about 45 km from Raipur on the Tilda–Kharora route, the safari spans nearly 500 hectares. Visitors can enjoy a 10-km-long gypsy safari, where wildlife such as spotted deer, wild boars, rabbits, and pythons can be seen, along with birds like kingfishers, cuckoos, and eagles.

Facilities such as watchtowers, a kids’ play area, and landscaped gardens have been developed for tourists. Four well-equipped cottages are available for overnight stays. Notably, the on-site restaurant is operated by the “Jai Maa Ambe Women Self-Help Group,” promoting women’s empowerment and providing local employment.

The safari area has also been developed with eight ponds, anicuts, and grasslands for wildlife, with water supplied through solar-powered pumps. For safety, about 16 km of chain-link fencing has been installed. The region is rich in useful trees such as saja, khair, mahua, and arjun, as well as medicinal plants like safed musli and satavar.

Additionally, the nearby Dohra Tihra Mata Temple serves as an attraction for visitors and devotees alike.

Moharenga Nature Safari stands as a strong example of environmental conservation, local employment generation, and tourism development, and is expected to emerge as a major tourist destination near Raipur in the future.
