Lalu Prasad Yadav Hospitalised in Patna After Sudden Health Complications

Patna, July 2026 : Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna on Friday after his health reportedly deteriorated suddenly.

According to hospital sources, the 78-year-old veteran leader was rushed to IGIMS after developing medical complications earlier in the day. A specialised team of doctors has been assigned to monitor his condition and provide appropriate treatment.

Lalu Prasad was accompanied to the hospital by his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and his daughter, Rajya Sabha MP Misa Bharti, who remained with him as doctors carried out medical evaluations.

Soon after his admission, doctors conducted an initial clinical assessment and began a series of diagnostic tests. Hospital authorities said he has been kept under close observation, with medical experts exercising extra caution considering his age and long history of health problems.

The RJD chief had recently shifted to a new residence in Kautilya Nagar in Patna, where arrangements had been made to cater to his medical requirements. However, his health reportedly worsened unexpectedly, making immediate hospitalisation necessary.

News of his admission spread rapidly, prompting concern among RJD leaders, party workers and supporters. A large number of supporters gathered outside the hospital, following which the administration strengthened security and crowd management around the IGIMS campus.

Doctors are continuing to monitor his condition, and a detailed medical bulletin is expected after the ongoing examinations are completed.

Lalu Prasad Yadav has faced several serious health issues in recent years. In December 2022, he underwent a successful kidney transplant in Singapore, with his daughter Rohini Acharya donating one of her kidneys. Apart from kidney-related ailments, he has also been receiving treatment for heart disease, hypertension and other age-related health complications, and remains under regular medical supervision.
