Vivek Agnihotri Announces ‘Operation Sindoor’ Film on India’s Covert Military Strikes

Mumbai, March 2026: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri on Thursday announced his next ambitious project, Operation Sindoor, a film inspired by a book by Lt Gen K. J. S. Dhillon that explores India’s covert cross-border military operations.

The director revealed that he has collaborated with Bhushan Kumar, head of T-Series, to bring the story to the big screen. The film is based on the book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan, which provides a detailed account of strategic military actions carried out by India.

Sharing the announcement on social media, Agnihotri described the film as a powerful narrative rooted in real events that significantly altered the security dynamics of the region. He said the project aims to present facts with clarity while leveraging the storytelling power of cinema.

According to the filmmaker, the story unfolds in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which had far-reaching consequences. The film will delve into India’s calculated military response, highlighting the planning, intelligence coordination and execution behind the operations. Agnihotri emphasised that the project is backed by extensive ground-level research and inputs from various wings of the Indian Armed Forces.

The narrative draws from real-life developments that led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. In May 2025, India launched a series of missile strikes under the codename Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

The operation was carried out in response to the Pahalgam attack in April 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The military action marked a significant escalation in hostilities and was seen as a decisive step in India’s counter-terror strategy.

Agnihotri stated that the film is not intended to sensationalise events but to present a realistic and informed account of the developments. He underlined that the goal is to confront complex issues with authenticity and insight, offering audiences a deeper understanding of the events that reshaped regional security.

With Operation Sindoor, the filmmaker aims to blend factual storytelling with cinematic impact, bringing a critical chapter of recent history to audiences across the country.
