Actor-Politician Vijay Files Nomination from Perambur Amid Massive Show of Support

Chennai, March 2026 : Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Monday filed his nomination papers from the Perambur Assembly constituency, marking a key step in his political journey ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam submitted his nomination before the Returning Officer at Dr Ambedkar Government Arts College in Vyasarpadi. He was accompanied by senior party leaders, including General Secretary N. Anand and Joint General Secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, as he completed the formalities.

The nomination filing turned into a major public event, drawing thousands of supporters, party workers, and fans. Large crowds gathered along the roads leading to Vyasarpadi and outside the college premises well before Vijay’s arrival, reflecting the growing enthusiasm around his political debut. Supporters were seen cheering and waving party flags as his convoy moved through the area.

The heavy turnout led to traffic disruptions in several parts of Vyasarpadi. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers to manage the crowd and maintain order. At one point, traffic came to a brief halt near a signal junction when motorists stopped their vehicles to catch a glimpse of Vijay and take selfies as his campaign convoy paused. Though the disruption lasted only a short while, it caused temporary congestion before normal movement resumed.

Party leaders described the occasion as a significant “show of strength,” highlighting the strong grassroots support for Vijay and his party. The scale of the turnout is being seen as an indication of the political momentum the party has been building in recent months.

The Perambur constituency, located in north Chennai, is expected to witness a closely contested battle in the upcoming elections. Vijay’s entry into the fray has added a new dimension to the contest, drawing attention from both political observers and rival parties.
