Delhi Police Nab Key Dabri Murder Accused in Encounter, Second Suspect Also Injured in Separate Operation

New Delhi, March 2026 : In a swift crackdown following a fatal stabbing in the Dabri area, Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested the prime accused after an encounter near Najafgarh’s Kakrola Nala Road. The operation, carried out by the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Dwarka district, also saw a second suspect injured and apprehended in a separate encounter earlier in the day.

The main accused, identified as Prem Sharma alias Himanshu, 21, was tracked based on specific intelligence inputs. Police said he was intercepted on Monday night while attempting to flee on a stolen scooty. When asked to surrender, the accused allegedly opened fire at the police team, firing three rounds with intent to kill.

One of the bullets struck the bulletproof vest of Head Constable Sandeep, narrowly averting serious injury. Acting in self-defence, the police team retaliated with controlled firing, during which the आरोपी was shot in the right knee. He was subsequently overpowered after a brief scuffle and taken into custody. A pistol along with live and spent cartridges was recovered from the spot. The घायल accused was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to investigators, the case originated late on March 29 when a PCR call was received at Dabri police station reporting a stabbing near Durga Mata Mandir in Madhu Vihar. Responding teams reached the location and learned that the घायल victim had already been taken to hospital by a bystander.

The victim, identified as Govind Jha, 39, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of March 30 at a hospital in Dwarka Sector-3. Crime scene experts and forensic teams were deployed to gather evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events.

In a parallel operation, police also apprehended another accused linked to the case, Rohit Kumar alias Noddy, also 21, during a search operation in Dwarka’s Sector 17. Acting on intelligence leads, a Special Staff team spotted him near a sports complex.

Officials said that when asked to surrender, Rohit Kumar allegedly opened fire, with one bullet passing close to Head Constable Jagat Singh. Despite warnings, he fired three rounds at the police team. Officers again responded with measured force, shooting him in the left knee before overpowering him after a brief struggle.

Police recovered a 7.65 mm pistol with one live cartridge and three empty shells from his possession. He too was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities confirmed that both accused have prior criminal backgrounds, with involvement in serious offences including kidnapping and murder. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the case, which had triggered concern after one person was killed and three others were left critically injured in the stabbing incident.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act at Dwarka North police station. Further investigation is ongoing, with police working to identify additional suspects and establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

Officials said the operations reflect a coordinated and restrained approach by law enforcement, ensuring both the neutralisation of threats and adherence to procedure while handling armed suspects.
