Jaipur Metro Phase-2 to Drive City Growth, CM Reviews Expansion Plans
Jaipur, April 2026: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma chaired a meeting on the progress and expansion of the Jaipur Metro Rail Project, stating that Metro Phase-2 will act as a major growth engine for the city’s overall development.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Union Cabinet’s approval of the project, Sharma said the new phase will significantly improve connectivity to key industrial areas such as Sitapura and VKI, while ensuring smoother and more efficient public transport for residents.
The Chief Minister directed officials to implement the Phase-2 corridor, which will run from Prahladpura to Todi Mod, in a phased manner. He instructed that work on the first package—from Prahladpura to Pinjrapole Gaushala—should commence at the earliest by issuing the necessary work orders without delay.
He also emphasised the need to identify a suitable location for the construction of a metro depot under Phase-2 and called for the proper development of parking facilities to support commuter convenience. Sharma stressed that metro projects must be executed within fixed timelines and controlled costs to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
In addition, the Chief Minister directed officials to expedite ongoing works under Phase-1C (Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar) and Phase-1D (Mansarovar to Ajmer Road Crossing), highlighting the importance of maintaining momentum across all metro expansion projects.
Looking ahead, Sharma instructed authorities to prepare a long-term metro expansion plan based on population density and traffic pressure. He suggested extending the metro network towards key routes such as Delhi Road and Sikar Road, among others. He reiterated the state government’s vision of connecting Jaipur’s major corridors through a comprehensive metro network.
During the meeting, officials presented a master plan for metro expansion in line with the 2025–26 budget announcements. Proposed extensions include areas such as Amer, Jagatpura, Bagrana (Agra Road), and ISBT Heerapura.
The Chief Minister also directed the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and Jaipur Metro to work in close coordination on the development of a multi-purpose elevated road project.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary V. Srinivas and representatives from the Chief Minister’s Office, Urban Development Department, Jaipur Metro Corporation, JDA, and Jaipur district administration, were present at the meeting.
