Stalin Counters EPS Allegations, Recalls Early Political Days at Massive Chennai Rally

Tamil Nadu, April 2026 : At a major election rally of the Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA) held in Maraimalainagar near Chennai, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin strongly responded to allegations made by Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami, using a deeply personal anecdote from his early political life to underline his long-standing commitment to public service and Tamil identity.

Addressing a large gathering, Stalin said that accusations against him, particularly those claiming he remained absent from the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, needed to be viewed in proper context. Rejecting the criticism, he chose to reflect on his formative years in politics, presenting them as evidence of his enduring connection with the people.

The Chief Minister recalled a significant moment from 1971, when he was just 18 years old and had recently joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Speaking about a party meeting held in the Kongu region, Stalin said he had requested an opportunity to address the gathering and was allowed to deliver a brief speech. During that speech, he had passionately declared his willingness to dedicate his life—even sacrifice it—for the protection of the Tamil language and culture.

He described this moment as a defining point in his political journey, stating that his ideals and commitment to the people were shaped early on and have remained unchanged. “My political life has always been rooted in service to the people and safeguarding our cultural identity,” Stalin said, emphasizing that his actions over the decades reflect this belief.

The rally witnessed a massive turnout, with party workers and supporters gathering in large numbers. Stalin used the platform to reiterate that his political career has been closely intertwined with the lives of ordinary citizens. He asserted that he has consistently made efforts to remain accessible to the public, even during challenging times, and that isolated allegations should not overshadow years of work and dedication.

Highlighting the importance of facts in political discourse, Stalin urged people not to be swayed by misinformation or selective narratives. He pointed out that governance should be judged on the basis of performance and long-term contributions rather than political rhetoric. “My responsibility towards the people has always been my top priority,” he stated.

The Chief Minister also called upon party workers to remain united and proactive in reaching out to voters. He encouraged them to effectively communicate the government’s achievements, welfare schemes, and development initiatives to the public. Stressing the need for a positive campaign approach, Stalin said that engaging with people constructively would be crucial in the current electoral climate.

Responding indirectly to Palaniswami’s criticism, Stalin suggested that his political identity should be evaluated through the lens of his decades-long service and struggle, rather than recent controversies. He maintained that his credibility stems from sustained efforts and a consistent track record.

The rally turned into a show of strength for the DMK, with enthusiastic supporters raising slogans in favour of the Chief Minister and expressing confidence in his leadership. The event has further intensified the political debate in Tamil Nadu, as both ruling and opposition parties sharpen their narratives ahead of the elections.

Overall, the Maraimalainagar rally served as a platform for Stalin to blend past and present, using his early political experiences to counter current allegations while reaffirming his commitment to public service, unity, and the preservation of Tamil culture.
