Donald Trump Announced 10 Days Ceasefire Between Israel And Lebanon.
Washington DC; April 2026: US President Donald J Trump a while ago at 21:10 Hours (IST) have announced a 10 days ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. On his Truth Social Post, Trump said, “I just had excellent conversations with the Highly Respected President Joseph Aoun, of Lebanon, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel. These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST”.
“On Tuesday, the two Countries met for the first time in 34 years here in Washington, D.C., with our Great Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. I have directed Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Rubio, together with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Razin’ Caine, to work with Israel and Lebanon to achieve a Lasting PEACE. It has been my Honor to solve 9 Wars across the World, and this will be my 10th, so let’s, GET IT DONE!”
In the second post on Truth Social after announcing a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, Trump said he would be inviting the leaders of both countries to Washington for talks.
“I will be inviting the Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu, and the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, to the White House for the first meaningful talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983, a very long time ago. Both sides want to see PEACE, and I believe that will happen, quickly!”
Before Donald Trump had announced the ceasefire, the Lebanese President Joseph Aoun had refused to get on the phone with Israel’s Prime Minister without a ceasefire, so it appears that there was a deal agreed on both sides and Trump decided to announce that. In a matter of hours, there should be a ceasefire in southern Lebanon, which Trump said he successfully brokered. It’s clear that there have been talks in the Oval Office with both sides that led to this announcement. What they’re aiming for is to take it one step at a time. This is a first step, but clearly, Aoun made it clear in his call with Rubio that he was not ready to entertain the possibility of a phone call with Netanyahu without a ceasefire in place.
Meanwhile, Senior Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah has told the Reuters news agency that whether the group would abide by a possible ceasefire depended on Israel halting all forms of hostilities. Speaking minutes before Trump announced a truce, Fadlallah said that Hezbollah had been briefed on a possible short-term ceasefire to start on Thursday night by Iran’s ambassador to Beirut.
Even as ceasefire looms, Israeli strikes continue to pound south Lebanon; although it is not yet clear whether the ceasefire would take effect. Over the past two hours, there have been about 50 Israeli strikes on this coastal region in southern Lebanon, south and southeast of Tyre. People are anxiously waiting for an official announcement from the Lebanese government.
The reaction on the ground is broadly positive, with many welcoming the announcement by the US president, but it has not yet taken effect. That leaves a sensitive window, in which Israel could escalate further.
Even if a ceasefire is declared, it is unclear whether people will be able to return home. The destruction of a key bridge today will make movement from northern to southern Lebanon extremely difficult, especially for the hundreds of thousands displaced. There are also questions about Israeli troop presence inside Lebanese territory. Dozens of towns and villages remain occupied, making returns nearly impossible for many.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reports that the death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks has risen to 2,196, with 7,185 people injured. In its latest update, the Disaster Risk Management Unit at the Grand Serail said the figures reflect the mounting human cost of Israel’s continued assault on the country.
