Punjab Kings Crush Mumbai Indians by 7 Wickets; De Kock’s Ton Goes in Vain

Wankhede Stadium, April 2026 : Punjab Kings continued their dominant run in the Indian Premier League 2026 season with a commanding 7-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in the 24th match on Thursday.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Punjab Kings produced a disciplined performance to restrict Mumbai Indians to 195/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The highlight of MI’s innings was a शानदार unbeaten century by Quinton de Kock, who smashed 112 off just 60 deliveries, laced with 8 boundaries and 7 sixes. He anchored the innings almost single-handedly, finding limited support from the rest of the batting lineup.

Youngster Naman Dhir chipped in with a useful 50 off 31 balls, but Punjab’s bowlers kept the pressure intact throughout. Arshdeep Singh was the standout performer with the ball, returning impressive figures of 3/22 in four overs. His double strike, removing Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav on consecutive deliveries, proved to be a turning point. Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh also chipped in with a wicket each.

Chasing a competitive target of 196, Punjab Kings made a mockery of the total with a blistering batting display. Opener Prabhsimran Singh led the charge with an unbeaten 80 off just 39 balls, striking 11 fours and 2 sixes. He found solid support in skipper Shreyas Iyer, who hammered 66 off 35 balls.

The duo stitched together a match-winning 139-run partnership for the third wicket, effectively taking the game away from Mumbai Indians. Their aggressive stroke play ensured that Punjab reached 198/3 in just 16.3 overs, sealing the win with plenty of balls to spare.

For Mumbai Indians, AM Ghazanfar was the only bowler to make some impact, picking up 2/31. However, the rest of the bowling unit struggled to contain Punjab’s attacking approach.

With this emphatic win, Punjab Kings strengthened their position at the top of the points table, collecting 9 points from five matches (four wins and one no-result), along with a healthy net run rate of 1.067.
