Excise & Narcotics Commissioner Visits Khawzawl; 4 Soap Cases of Heroin Seized

Khawzawl, April 2026: Pu Z. Lalhmangaiha, Commissioner of the Excise & Narcotics Department, Mizoram, visited the Assistant Commissioner’s Office of the Excise & Narcotics Department in Khawzawl and conducted an annual inspection. During the visit, he reviewed the office’s functioning and also held an interaction and motivational session with the staff.

The Commissioner encouraged the officials posted in Khawzawl to approach him without hesitation whenever they face difficulties, assuring them of full support in resolving issues. He stated that the government places high importance on the Excise & Narcotics Department and noted that the department is steadily progressing. He urged the staff to carry out their duties with sincerity and dedication for the benefit of the public.

Highlighting the seriousness of the drug menace, he reminded the staff that they are on the frontlines of the fight against narcotics, which remains one of the biggest challenges in Mizoram. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining strong coordination with community leaders and volunteers to effectively combat drug-related issues.

At present, the Assistant Commissioner’s Office of the Excise & Narcotics Department in Khawzawl has a total of nine staff members, including Pu Joseph C. Lalhmangaihzuala, Assistant Commissioner, seven enforcement staff, and one Grade-IV staff member. The government is currently taking steps to strengthen the workforce, with the addition of two constables expected soon.

During the Commissioner’s visit, one person (male detainee) involved in an NDPS case was lodged in the lock-up. On the previous day, the Khawzawl Excise & Narcotics Department seized 44 grams of heroin (equivalent to four soap cases) and apprehended the individual in possession of the contraband.
