Shikhar Dhawan Registers Marriage With Sophie Shine in Gurugram
New Delhi, May 2026 : Former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan officially registered his marriage with Sophie Shine at the marriage registrar’s office in Gurugram on Wednesday, months after the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony earlier this year.
According to reports, Dhawan and Sophie completed the legal formalities in the presence of close family members and a priest. The couple signed the marriage documents at the registrar’s office, marking the official registration of their union.
Dhawan and Sophie had married in an intimate ceremony in the Delhi-NCR region on February 21, 2026. Their relationship had attracted public attention after the former Indian opener made it official in 2025. The two reportedly met in Dubai and dated for more than a year before deciding to get married.
Sophie Shine, an Irish professional product consultant, is currently associated with the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation and has been actively involved in its initiatives. The couple had also announced their engagement earlier this year on January 12.
This marks Dhawan’s second marriage. He was previously married to Melbourne-based Aesha Mukerji in 2012. The couple separated after several years of marriage, and Dhawan was granted divorce by a Delhi court on October 5, 2023, on grounds of mental cruelty. The former couple has a son, Zoravar.
Apart from his personal life, Dhawan enjoyed a distinguished cricketing career for India across all formats. The left-handed opener represented the national team from 2010 to 2022 and became one of India’s most dependable batters in white-ball cricket.
He made his Test debut against Australia in 2013 and made an immediate impact by scoring a memorable century. Over the course of his Test career, Dhawan scored 2,315 runs in 34 matches at an average of 40.61, including seven centuries and five half-centuries. His highest Test score was 190.
In One Day Internationals, Dhawan was a consistent performer at the top of the order, scoring 6,793 runs in 167 matches at an average of 44.11, with 11 centuries and 39 fifties to his name. He also played 68 T20 Internationals, scoring 1,759 runs with a highest score of 92.
Dhawan also enjoyed a long and successful Indian Premier League career from 2008 to 2024, representing franchises including Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings.
Known for his aggressive batting and charismatic personality, Dhawan remains one of India’s most popular cricketers even after retirement.
