Beneficiaries share success stories of schemes working on the ground
Lucknow, May 2026 : In Uttar Pradesh, cow service is no longer limited only to religious faith, but has emerged as a strong economic model giving new momentum to the rural economy of the state. The rapid expansion of the dairy sector under the Yogi Government has not only significantly increased the income of farmers and youth, but has also created permanent employment opportunities in villages. Initiatives like the “Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana” and “Nand Baba Milk Mission” have turned this change into reality at the grassroots level.

Today, thousands of youth in the state are earning annual incomes of Rs 10 to 12 lakh through dairy enterprises, something that was earlier not considered easy in traditional animal husbandry.
Devendra Singh, a resident of Radoi village in Mathura district, was selected under the Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana under the Nand Baba Milk Mission. He purchased eight Sahiwal and two Gir cattle breeds and established a dairy unit. The government provided him subsidy of up to 50 percent of the project cost. At present, his dairy unit is producing an average of 100 litres of milk daily, due to which his business is continuously growing.
Devendra says that with the support of the Yogi Government, he got an opportunity to become self-reliant.
Additional Chief Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Mukesh Meshram said that under the Yogi Government, Uttar Pradesh has achieved record success in the field of milk production. Uttar Pradesh’s share in the country’s total milk production has now crossed 16 percent. Leaving behind states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, UP has now become the largest milk-producing state in the country.
Sahiwal and Gir breeds of cows are known for higher milk production and better quality. The Yogi Government has given a new direction to the dairy sector by promoting these breeds. Modern dairy units are now being established at the local level in rural areas, which has not only increased milk production but also created employment opportunities in sectors like cattle feed, transportation, milk collection and marketing.
For the first time in the state, youth have been connected to the dairy sector on such a large scale and brought into the economic mainstream.
Additional Chief Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Mukesh Meshram said, this growth is the result of planned development and the Chief Minister’s ground-level efforts.
He added that the rapid growth in the dairy sector has become a symbol of the changing picture of Uttar Pradesh. With rising income, youth are no longer migrating from villages.
Rural youth say that earlier animal husbandry was considered a source of limited income, but now the same sector has become a major source of respectable and stable employment.
On a large scale, youth are setting up dairy units and generating employment not only for themselves but also for others. In villages, cow service is now emerging as a new model of economic prosperity and self-reliance.
