Arya’s Blitz, Iyer’s Stability and Shedge’s Late Firepower Power PBKS to 210/5 Against DC

Dharamsala, May 2026 : Scorecard — Punjab Kings 210/5 (20 overs) | Priyansh Arya 56 (33), Shreyas Iyer 59 (34), Suryansh Shedge 18 (6); Madhav Tiwari 2/40, Mitchell Starc 2/57**

Punjab Kings produced a commanding batting display built on an explosive start from Priyansh Arya, a composed anchoring knock from Shreyas Iyer, and a late surge from Suryansh Shedge to post a formidable total of 210/5 against Delhi Capitals in Match 55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Monday.

The innings began in breathtaking fashion as Arya set the tone from the very first ball, launching Mitchell Starc over cover-point for a six. It was only the second instance of Starc being hit for a first-ball six in a T20 match, the previous one coming against Yashasvi Jaiswal earlier in the season. The left-arm pacer endured a nightmare opening over, conceding 22 runs—his most expensive first over in T20 cricket.

Arya capitalised on the momentum, continuing his fearless assault. He targeted Azmatullah Nabi and Lungi Ngidi, smashing the latter for consecutive sixes—one over midwicket and another over extra cover. His intent ensured Punjab raced to 50 in just four overs. Even as Delhi Capitals briefly slowed the scoring with variations in pace, Arya reached a fluent 24-ball half-century in the sixth over. Punjab Kings finished the powerplay strongly at 72/0.

Delhi finally found a breakthrough when Prabhsimran Singh, who had struggled for fluency despite a few streaky boundaries, edged Mukesh Kumar to deep backward square leg, where Nabi completed a low catch. He departed for 18 off 15 balls.

Shreyas Iyer walked in at No. 3 and immediately faced probing seam movement from Mukesh Kumar. However, he quickly settled, rotating strike and punishing loose deliveries. Arya’s explosive knock ended at 56 off 33 balls when IPL debutant Madhav Tiwari struck, with Sahil Parakh taking a catch at deep cover after Arya mistimed a short ball.

At the halfway mark, Punjab Kings stood at 107/2, well-placed for a strong finish.

Iyer ensured stability while maintaining the scoring rate. He brought up a brisk 59* off 34 balls, including a 73-metre straight six off Ngidi despite losing balance after mistiming a slower delivery. Cooper Connolly, after a cautious start, shifted gears dramatically—hammering Starc for a 96-metre six over long-off and then collecting a boundary and six off Ngidi in successive deliveries. At 162/2 after 16 overs, PBKS were firmly on course for a 200-plus total.

Mukesh Kumar bowled a tight 17th over, conceding just six runs, but the 18th over from Tiwari went for 19 as Iyer and Connolly accelerated. Tiwari still impressed on debut, finishing with 2/40.

The final flourish came in dramatic fashion during the 19th over when Mitchell Starc struck twice, removing Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh in consecutive deliveries. However, Suryansh Shedge counterattacked instantly, smashing the hat-trick ball straight back over the bowler for six. He followed it with a deft chip over mid-off and a towering 100-metre six over midwicket.

Lungi Ngidi bowled a disciplined final over, but Punjab Kings still closed strongly at 210/5, setting up a challenging target for Delhi Capitals in a high-stakes encounter.
